Engine Air Filter
2011 328XI, 34,000 miles
Factory warranty/Maint is up in December, I will grab my last free oil change around November and was wondering if anyone has got BMW to replace the engine air filter under maintenance, CPO warranty kicks in for 2 more years, great car so far. Last edited by m328XI; 07-17-2015 at 10:19 PM.. |

Per the BMW CBS maintenance schedule engine air filter replacement is every 3rd oil change, which is usually between 40,000 to 50,000 miles.

If you can money-shift it, it's a manual transmission. "Yeah, but NO ONE puts an automatic trans shift knob on a manual transmission."

Really? What's the airbox on the 328 look like? I know the stock air box in the 335 is extremely easy to open up, and my old E46 330 was also extremely easy. Just 4 clips around the edges and it pops right off.

It's totally different on the 328. The air box has hex screws that have to be removed. You have to remove the box in order to do that. Process is a piece of cake, I'm no mechanic and was able to do it on my old 328 with no issues. I also wound up replacing it with a eurointake box.

And way too many on the N52 airbox I might add.

If you guys can do this job in 10 minutes that's great........Being an IT guy I don't have tools set to go in my garage to work on cars............when the warranty is up a new car takes it's place.
All I wanted was an answer on if BMW is replacing the air filter under maintenance. |

Take it from me. The stock N52 air box is very easy to remove, open, and reassemble. Only thing you need is a torx screwdriver set. It's a hell of a lot easier then what the video shows, which again was not an N52 air box. Last edited by Delta0311; 07-16-2015 at 06:19 PM.. |

Took me about 30 minutes the first time.
Took me about 30 minutes the first time.
I think I could do it in half that the second time. Although not a car mechanic I am use to turning screws. |

The bmw dealer initially refused to change the air filter after the 3rd oil change. Eventually they changed it but I wonder how many forget to change it thinking it is CBS.
