Possible switch 330 --*> 335 2007 fair price?!

Hey guys, I like the feeling of my 2006 330xi but would definetely love to move on to a 335. I am aware that 2007 335's arent the best bet since it was the 1st year they were produced but E92 are a bit out of my price range actually.

I had my eyes on a 2007 335xi pre-lci with 59k miles on it.
Car is manual, from the pictures it looks in great shape.
Sports package, premium package.
Black on tan, exactly the combination I have right now (and I like it).

Dealer is asking for 19900$CAD but I could probably deal it to 19k$.

Any advices? Should I wait or it seems like a decent deal?
Thanks!
Fred

I learned never to touch a 335 that is out of warranty. A lot of people say they rarely have problems others say its like hell for them. So I came to the conclusion it's a hit or miss, you either get one that's tough to maintain or you get a good one. Seeing that that one has very low miles is nice, but that means you're going to be the one that has to do all the main repairs for it (waste gasket, water pump, etc..I'm not sure exactly all the problems for it but its a long list) Kind of like how our n52 have the valve cover gasket, oil housing gasket, oil pan leak, water pump that every n52 has to get fixed..so imagine all that plus more for the 335.

I'm not saying don't get it because that honestly sounds like a great deal. Usually with that low miles they go for a tad more (I was looking into 335's a couple weeks ago) but if you're pockets are deep enough for the repairs by all means go for it and have a blast! You won't regret the fun factor that's for sure. And since the miles are still low you can put a couple hundred aside for the repairs when they hit I've kind of accepted my 330 is "slow" (by today's standards..the average car is getting faster and faster) and I'm probably going to keep this car for a long while so I might as well make it a looker and maybe have some minor performance upgrades.

Anyways, good luck on your decision!!

What about a 2008? I do not know if you are financing or not, but a few dollars a month might be worth a year younger car with slightly lower(read warranty) mileage..

Yes I am financing but 4-5k more on 60mo means about 70-80$/mo it's more than I can actually afford if I am reasonable..! I know a 2008 would be on the safer side though. But in my price range 19-20k, there's no way I can get a 2008 with good package options under 80-90k miles

Make sure it has an oil cooler (check the passenger wheel well). Early 07's didnt have them, late ones did. Makes a big difference in running temps

I might have another option. There is a 2008 335xi with 47k miles on it available nearby. It doesnt seem like it has sports package or premium package tho but car is still under warranty until June 2014. Asking price is 23k but could probably deal it to 22k or so..

Sedan? If it's a sedan, an easy way to tell if it has sports package is if it has the sport steering wheel with paddle shifters. For coupe, sports steering wheel is standard so the way to tell is if the steering wheel has paddle shifters. Sports package also includes seats that have the thigh extension and side bolsters. To tell if the car has premium package, I think the easy way to tell is if there are three buttons on the rear view mirror (garage opener)

Sport package seats

Oh, that's right! My bad. So the easiest way to tell would be the seats.

Hte steering wheel will still have that chrome finish along the wheel too if it a sport package, and the frame outside the window will be black and not chrome....ps I think u should bargain more than 19000 for that car...start really

well my point anyways is, even though the 2008 doesnt have sports package, is it worth 3k more because of 14 months warranty left, 12k miles less and 1 year more recent?

I personally wouldn't go for a 335 without sports package even though on the xdrive it doesn't have sports suspension like it does on the RWD 335 with sports package but even then, the sport steering wheel and sport seats is enough for me to not consider a 335 without sports package. Having the warranty definitely is a plus though so it's a bit hard to say whether or not it's worth it because on one hand you'll be covered for a year or so but on the other hand you can possibly hate the fact that you chose a car without sports package. I guess it comes down to if you can live without sports package. I didn't mention this earlier but any year 335i can be plagued by problems, it's really a gamble. If you get lucky then you'll have a 335 that has no real problems, if not it will be a pain in the ass.
