Just watched the MCM "Turbo vs Supercharger" again and although I knew supercharger is not as efficient as turbocharger in the beginning due to parasitic loss, but this real experiment affirmed once again the ESS SC kit will not be as attractive as OP's or BPC's turbo n52 for F.I. if they were both being mass produced and available on the market....

Hey hey hey no fighting guys.. Nobody really knows for sure what it will handle and for how long.. That's what I'm trying to find out. So far it's been holding it's own for almost two years now, it might be over two years. Keep in mind this is driven every day... 7 days a week. I usually drive it Monday through Saturday. If I have the kids my wife is driving it. She also drives it to work on Sundays. She does not drive slow either. I am truly scared when driving with her sometimes. Although I do drive a little harder than she does lol. So not too shabby for a little old N52... I'm impressed with it...

There is no way a turbo kit for the N52 will be less than 10k. Just think about all of the extra parts needed since it is not trubo from the factory. Hell even the N55 turbo kits are 9-10k. Cheap hot parts kit for the N54 is 3k, EFR turbo 2k, custom intercooler 1k.Then add custom plumbing, BOV, wastegate, oil and coolant lines, relocation parts and tuning. I'm guessing any kit will be 10-12k minimum.

GTX3582r ~$2k Intercooler kit ~$1k SS manifolds ~$1k Downpipe ~$0.5k Tuned map ~$2k Misc (Wastegate, water & oil lines, bov, gaskets and bolts) ~$1.5k Margin to cover R&D ~$2k to be honest, the main component in the kit are the custom manifolds and the tuned map, the rest can be fabricated locally anywhere with some effort...

heh, 20psi on aluminum - isn't going to break anything.
Just think about that for a second. The tensile & compressive strength of an aluminum alloy is way, way higher than 20psi (even accounting for a 10:1 compression ratio, it's not even close). It's not as high as steel - of course - but the idea that crankcase pressure is going to blow up the block is ridiculous. |

Threads been dead for a while but I found this turbo kit for n52/n51 for only $4,600 from Verstaken auto. They look relatively new however they claim to sell a full bolt on kit that can be installed within a. day.https://www.verstarkenauto.com/

N52 Kit: https://4nmotorsport.com/collections.../n52-turbo-kit Instagram post: On the low, I've been entertaining the thought of building a turbo E91 wagon to replace my daily F30 328i. Not sure if I'll go through with it but hope is not yet lost on these older platforms. |
