Just watched the MCM "Turbo vs Supercharger" again and although I knew supercharger is not as efficient as turbocharger in the beginning due to parasitic loss, but this real experiment affirmed once again the ESS SC kit will not be as attractive as OP's or BPC's turbo n52 for F.I. if they were both being mass produced and available on the market....

I never said it couldn't handle boost, please quote me where I said those words. I just think longevity is something to keep in mind.

Hey hey hey no fighting guys.. Nobody really knows for sure what it will handle and for how long.. That's what I'm trying to find out. So far it's been holding it's own for almost two years now, it might be over two years. Keep in mind this is driven every day... 7 days a week. I usually drive it Monday through Saturday. If I have the kids my wife is driving it. She also drives it to work on Sundays. She does not drive slow either. I am truly scared when driving with her sometimes. Although I do drive a little harder than she does lol. So not too shabby for a little old N52... I'm impressed with it...

OP I really think you should hit the market with a turbo kit, pretty sure there will be a market for it, I will be the first one for sure!~!

There is no way a turbo kit for the N52 will be less than 10k. Just think about all of the extra parts needed since it is not trubo from the factory. Hell even the N55 turbo kits are 9-10k. Cheap hot parts kit for the N54 is 3k, EFR turbo 2k, custom intercooler 1k.Then add custom plumbing, BOV, wastegate, oil and coolant lines, relocation parts and tuning. I'm guessing any kit will be 10-12k minimum.

I think ~$10k mark for an initial market penetration is a reasonable starting.

GTX3582r ~$2k
Intercooler kit ~$1k
SS manifolds ~$1k
Downpipe ~$0.5k
Tuned map ~$2k
Misc (Wastegate, water & oil lines, bov, gaskets and bolts) ~$1.5k
Margin to cover R&D ~$2k

to be honest, the main component in the kit are the custom manifolds and the tuned map, the rest can be fabricated locally anywhere with some effort...

If you want longevity leave it stock.

heh, 20psi on aluminum - isn't going to break anything.

Just think about that for a second. The tensile & compressive strength of an aluminum alloy is way, way higher than 20psi (even accounting for a 10:1 compression ratio, it's not even close). It's not as high as steel - of course - but the idea that crankcase pressure is going to blow up the block is ridiculous.

Posted some things in this thread already http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...=665812&page=3, decided to just start a new one.

The turbo system consists of... GT35R single turbo, Custom turbo manifold, 80lb injectors, AEM FIC, Turbo Smart wastegate, 3" SS Downpipe to 4" exhaust, AEM wide band gauge, Turbo Smart boost controller. N54 oil filter stand and N54 oil cooler.

Body is converted to M3 panels, and widened the rear 5" wider than an M3, COR wheels 20x10 front 20x12 rear. Tein coilover suspension with electronic dampening controller (EDFC).

Low boost 9psi, mid boost 11psi, high boost 13psi.

Never dynoed, but figure in the 420hp range on mid boost. Drive with a couple of friends with M4's. Barely beat stock M4's and barely get beaten by JB4 equipped M4's. Running out of fuel on high boost due to stock fuel pump not keeping up, so don't use it at the moment.

Its my daily driver, been turbo for about a year now. Still holding together "knock on wood...Pray to god" lol.

I do have a broken second gear at the moment, and have gone through multiple clutches.

Next on the upgrades is
adding another fuel pump so I can run on high boost pressure.
N54 manual transmission upgrade and
N54 flywheel and clutch.

I started this project in 2007 (here http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=81727is the thread from back then) but was sidelined for years when I started having Kids. Here we are 9 years later, 4 kids later, two mini vans later lol

Will try to post updates of further progress as much as possible.

My YouTube video here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EDUUdmmo-D0. Have more on my YouTube Channel. Will Try to add more vids.

Can also see more pics on my personal instagram @jaysonpunancy and on my shop instagram @jamascoautorepair and on the shop Facebook https://www.facebook.com/Jamasco-Aut...35156/?fref=ts

I really do have a Mini Van and its hooked up too lol

"Have gone through multiple clutches"

your youtube video certainly shows this, lol

Threads been dead for a while but I found this turbo kit for n52/n51 for only $4,600 from Verstaken auto. They look relatively new however they claim to sell a full bolt on kit that can be installed within a. day.https://www.verstarkenauto.com/

Mike @ 4N Motorsport put out a kit a while ago as part of his r&d for a 2.6L high revving S55 engine.

On the low, I've been entertaining the thought of building a turbo E91 wagon to replace my daily F30 328i. Not sure if I'll go through with it but hope is not yet lost on these older platforms.
