TPMS question

hey guys im finally getting some rims for my e90, do i have to to buy new tire pressure monitors or can i take them off my old wheels? please explain thanks in advance for yalls help!

You can have your oem tpms installed on your new wheels. They charge you for transferring them but can sometimes get away with it, $10 per wheel.

thanks man! helps alot, so the tire shop should know what to do then? Thats what i was worried about because honestly i have no idea about the TPM system.

It's going to cost more than $10 per wheel. They have to take off original tires, take out tpms, put on original tires, take off new tires, put on tpms, put on new tires. It should be a little under $100 depending on the shop.

The sensors also may not work on your new wheels. It's usually compatible, but I know that certain wheels with lips have had issues with where to place the sensors.

if you have an 06, you have FTM, and no sensors to transfer. just reinit the system and you're good to go.

You can take your old one and put it on the new wheels. But the valves would be different. I took mine to the dealership. They put the correct valves and charge me $30 per valve and $100 dollars for balancing and installation. Yeah, it's going to hurt.....

yea my car is an 06.....i guess ill just ask the guy at the shop! Is there anyway i can check what my car has?

As Orient330iNYC said, the 06s don't have a TPMS. It uses the ABS and DTC to detect abnormal pressures.

+1 Anything '06 build and older, '07 builds became a govt mandated std to have TPMS in the wheels.

You don't need to ask your tire shop he might BS. TPMS is on 07+ e9Xs, 06 e90s have a different system that monitors the tire rotation through ABS and DTC, unlike the TPMS that has a sensor to monitor pressure on every tire.

I just put new tires and wheels on my 2007 E90 at 50k miles, Discount tire
changed the wheels and moved my old TPMS to the new wheels - no charge
