Damn that sounds nice with the 2nd cats gone. I see you kept the resonator, good choice. How's the drone on the highway? A little more get up and go vs just the MD or did you do all at once?

Here's mine for comparison sake. Sounds similar in person just a bit more throaty.

I've been toying with this idea because I don't want the car to be "too" loud. I want it to have a deeper tone under load though.
bump, since it was pushed back to previous page.

Dimensions needed...

For those of you who have already done this mod, do you know the dimension of the pipe where you cut off the stock muffler? What size pipe did you use for your replacement? Thanks.

I have a 3" back deleting my Res+Muff, I love it! I know the pipe diameter definetely makes a difference in sound

these videos are exactly the sound I'm looking for. Your car sounds awesome. Any chance on a windows up/windows down in car video?

Also, how'd you time the dual conversion? Drove the shop with the new bumper on with the right side cutout empty? Or did you have the shop fit everything?

Thanks I'll try to get that for you!!

The body shop put on my new bumper and diffuser, then chopped off the muffler, at about the rear axle, in order to fit the diffuser and everything.

We all thought it sounded pretty good with the muffler chopped off. So I drove to the exhaust shop that way (once the body work was all completed) and just kept the muffler delete, thinking I could add always add a muffler later on.

It droned really bad the first few days I had the conversion finished. But since then it has actually broken in nicely with minimal drone. I love it.

Is it worth deleting the res? Looks like lots of people did a muffler and resonator delete
I thought that it didn't make much difference in sound, also it will be harder to put the car back to stock.

The drone is alot worse without the res BUT the sound definetely gets better imo. It becomes more noticeable and deeper in tone.

Where are people getting the pipes from between the tips and the stock pipework? Are they being custom made? What diameter?

Just got back from a muffler shop because I was excited to get this done. Picked out my dual tip and got a quote for $110 installed out the door. Then he asked me if I'm ready for the loud unbearable drone and it would cost me 65 bucks if i decided to put my muffler back on. I dont know if he's just trying to sell me a muffler or being honest about the drone. Is it really that unbearable? I know it's been asked million times but why is it that it's a large discrepancy with other saying none at all and others saying I had to put my muffler back on or buy an aftermarket one.
forgot to say that I did back out of it. Anyone in the 90505 with a muffler delete preferably 328i that I can check it out?

The first couple of days its gonna seem pretty loud since the pipes are still breaking in and you are not used to the sound. After a week or so you'll fall in love with the sound. I got mine done almost a year and a half ago and I still get that little tingly feeling inside when I let off the gas and hear the gurgle

Im really keen on getting this done. I've owned loud cars for the last 6 years so im not going to really notice any drone. Id rather hear something than nothing to be honest, these cars are farrrr too quiet!

So I just need to get a quote from an exhaust place to chop out the rear muffler and weld in a straight pipe with a tail piece?

I have heard a few people say they noticed a bit of torque loss with a res delete. That strayed me away, cant afford to loose any power/torque.

So true about being too quiet. I haven't gotten it done but it looks like just take it to your muffler shop and tell them what you want and they will know what to do.

What exactly did you have done? Muffler and Resonator delete? Or just Muffler?

I have only my resonator removed on my 2011 sedan, i have experienced no torque or hp loss as my butt dyno says. I have actually read a muffler delete is what makes the torque go down not the resonator, but im no expert so keep researching. But so far i am happy with the resonator delete only
