Vehicle check - how much?

The vehicle check symbol has been red for about 1500 miles although timewise it's not due until next month.

Plan to get it done next week, but a localish dealer quoted £179.30, which equate to 1.5 hours, whilst a colleague got it done for under £100 on his 318i.

What is the normal price for this check - seems a lot for an inspection with no parts being replaced.

One option, get yourself on main dealer discount website and plug in what you need. Once you have a price and a dealer near your location use that price to barter with other dealers!

FYI BMW Enfield are wanting £100 for a 335i inspection

Is it Stephen James? I called the service dept for a quotation but they insisted I bring the key to them to read before they can provide a quote!

As they charge £180 per hour labour, it sounds like the vehicle check takes about 30 minutes. May I quote your price of £100 to barter with my local dealer?

Garage List
Is a vehicle check just to tell what may or may not need doing in the near future, such as checking brake discs and pads, tyres and oil etc etc??

Yes mate, it was Stephen James and they're quoting £100.84. You can get your own quote using the following internet address: http://www.maindealerdiscount.com

I used a Hayes postcode (to see which dealers were included under the MDD scheme in London) and my own car registration, as I also drive a 335i (albeit a Coupe not Touring).

FYI You may find another dealer closer to you with a better price. For example, I see Vines BMW Redhill offer the same for £89.10.

In the past I have always obtained a price from Main Dealer Discount before calling my local dealer and then can start negotiating if they're more expensive. If they don't play ball tell them to "trot on" and just goto one of the dealers included on the site.
