2004 to 2009 iDrive unanswered ?'s
Can it happen... I've frantically searched all around the internet and can't find any info at all about the retrofit. This obviously pertains to the 5 and 6 series Bimmers, but if you can, I might consider a 2004 645ci.

I'm not even sure if 2007 - 2009 has been successful on 3ers yet.

The systems are incompatible for a million reasons, it is not plug and play by any means. Anything can be done if you throw enough money at it. I would be more worried about the 45 rather than the 50 than iDrive.

Fundamentally it is the same effort and cost as in a 3-Series, and so far no Navigation or Voice Control can be activated. For a MY2004-2005 5- and 6-Series that old the CIC upgrade could be more difficult as it will require that the car software be upgraded to at least a MY2007 level. All the CIC and controller wiring/connectors are there (the monitor requires a new stand alone cable) so no new OEM harness or cutting wires is required. |
