Looks like a good matte finish from the pics. Other than the removal, what part of plasti dipping didn't you like?
Looked into it a few times but never taken the plunge so interesting to hear what someone who isn't doing a video on youtube thinks :-D |

Goes on realy well if you are in a wind free enviroment , takes 4 or 5 coats [light] to get a nice even finish. To be fair, I could have taken more time but, was a paint sprayer for 10 years and just did my usual, clean, inspect , clean again, spray.
Finish was good, not sure I liked it against the Silver of my car though.

I agree with you on that one, not a fan of black wheels on silver cars. |

I think it would of looked better with all the wheels done [if that makes sense] may have another go when i buy the proper kit and the correct spray gun. Kits can be bought for around £200 now. 5 litres of paint is quite cheap too.

did mine and liked it a lot. If you put plasti dip on thin, it is hard as hell to take off. Thick coating is cake to peel off. THe material adheres to itself in thick coats rather than to the rim.
If you cant get some parts off i used a little rubbing alcohol and it came right off with no damage to the clear coat at all. |

Have to agree, the thicker parts come off a lot easier, will try some different colours when I purchase the kit.

Don't try the gunmetal grey, it just looks like grey primer! The glossifier works quite well

no offence to plastidip but I have seen couple of cars where they did the window trims and they just didn't look right, from the distance and pictures yes, looks awesome, close ups not so good, vinyl job was way better, vinyl went all the way into the corners and under the trim or close enough to finish off nicely and not visible to the eye. Plastidip?? if you don't cut off properly ,from the close up you will always see the crapy job that is my 2 cents

I plastidipped the V centre bit of my E46 hood and then shot a thick ass layer of paint over it as well
Tip of the day - use a heat gun on the plastidip and then peel, comes off real easy, even with 5 or so layers of paint on top |

I bought a few cans of Plastid last year from Frosts Auto Restoration I found it easy to apply got a nice feel from out if the can but I was 50/50 re the end result for me the trims I coated looked ok but that was it. Peeled of ok colour wise I managed to get a grey as well that's alone the lines or appearance of Space Grey which I might re experiment with when time allows.

All done. I'll do a write up later this evening.
Pretty pleased with it, and only had one bit right by the drivers side mirror that didn't adhere for some reason, so just masked up that bit and tried again. Definitely peels off easier the thicker the coating is. I used a whole can to do both sides of the car- which is a lot more than other reviews said, but I figured if I am doing it, I may as well do it nice and thick! |
