Stripped caliper guide pin keeps turning, won't come out
Hi Guys,
I tried to do my rear brakes this morning but got a nasty surprise - the top guide pin came out fine, but the bottom one would keep turning both ways without much resistance except a small portion of its turn. I'm pretty sure it was stripped by the last guy who worked on it (it was at a dealership taken there by the last owner!). Now I can't get the pin out cuz it would just keep turning with no real resistance. How can I get it out? Thanks guys. Any help appreciated. |

Replace the whole unit, caliper and carrier, they are cheap.

Thanks feuer. The bigger question is how to get the guide pin out, because it just keeps turning without resistance and would not catch the thread to come out at all.
Called dealership for price of the carrier and they quoted C$460 (about USD$350). That's nuts. Ni can probably get it from wreckers for much cheaper though so I'm not too worried. |

$50 on Ebay. Is not worth messing with it. Even if you manage to remove the pin the threads on the carrier will most likely be demaged. Just order another one.

Thanks feuer. But how do I remove the caliper with the guide pin stuck to it? So I just remove the carrier and take the whole thing down?

Exactly, the bolts for the carrier and the brake fluid line. From experience the threads are damaged so your won't be able to install new pin regardless. So don't waste time and energy, just replace the hole unit.
