Be sure you take care not to spill any fluids onto the alternator or belts. I used this absorbing grey "paper" for fluids. I forgot where I got it. Stupid me also threw out the packaging... When you open that quick connect to drain the antifreeze A LOT WILL COME OUT. Maybe have some cups around to collect the fluid, because the absorbant paper didn't cut it and a lot just flowed to the splash guard and ground. I got a low coolant message because I didn't realize how much came out. I opened the reservior and found I needed to add a decent amount back in.

There is a special procedure and tool that you use to get rid of air bubbles in the coolant system. I didn't do this because I was getting the performance power kit installed and knew they would have to do this for that install. (I'm not sure if this is necessary because of this.)

This kind of info is priceless. Thank you. If you have any more to share, please don't hold back. Can you provide more info on the coolant process? Did you have to pull the intake mani? That PDF says you just pull it back... How much oil spilled when you pulled the housing? Any issues with coolant and oil mixing?

You do have to pull the intake manifold up a bit, but you don't have to remove it completely. I got most of the information I needed by deducing from reading the Bentley manual. They tell you how to remove and replace things like the microfilter housing, air intake, throttle body, and intake manifold. The part about the intake manifold needs some work though, because they ask you to slide the junction box down, see pic 7 in first post here:

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...atus+dinanicus

but I found it impossible to do so. Also a "charge pipe" towards the rear of the car beside the intake manifold is in a few pics and then in others is not. It connects to the rear of the air intake. I found it restricted removing the intake manifold but I couldn't find how to remove it in the Bentley Manual/didn't really want to either.

Then later I found on bmwtis.com that there is a special tool to slide that electrical box down... You can do the job without removing the intake manifold completely/with that "charge pipe" still there.

Remove the oil filter cover and oil filter like it advises. Wipe up as much oil as you can with some kind of cloth/paper towels, and very little oil comes out if I remember correctly. The grey absorbant paper I slid under the housing just before removing it did a fine job absorbing whatever did. (I don't remember much most likely because it wasn't a significant issue.) You can clean up whatever else comes out as it is very open.

Post #114 pic #3 shows what the "block" looks like with the housing removed:

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...il+cooler+line

I think the amount of coolant that comes out is your biggest concern. I don't think many people would want to buy that special tool but it is like a big container for fluid that you'd need an air compressor to connect to it to create a vacuum. This is supposed to get rid or any air bubbles...

If you are doing an aftermarket oil cooler you might want to know what I've deduced is the flow of oil. It comes out the driver side of the thermostat and returns the passenger side. (I followed the Dinan instructions and realized the oil flowed from the bottom of the oil cooler/radiator to the top, and eventually switched. The lines run nicely when it is set up from the bottom to the top, but I really liked the idea of the oil going down the "radiator".)

Any questions feel free to ask/PM me...

Is this kit still available? Don't see it on Stett's site.

This kit looks great!

I unfortunately bought my 335i without an oil cooler not knowing about it until months after. Big bummer!

For the price on these kits do you need to have a factory oil cooler first? Or have the retro fit kit?

My oil temps never get above 260 even with out one. I live in MI and during the summer it still gets pretty hot after spirited driving i get around 250-255.

Usually around 230-240 for normal driving. 70 degree ambient temps.

I need one of these!

My E92 does not have a factory oil cooler. Mt Stett Stage 2 arrived yesterday and I ordered the proper oil filter housing with it; it was like 230 bucks extra. I was contemplating doing it myself but after doing some reading, I think I'm gonna have a pro (LTBMW) do it.

Thx! did you just call them? Like I said, it doesn't appear to be an orderable option in their online store.

Hi everyone,

I know it is an old thread. Last weekend I installed a sate 2 STETT oil cooler and have some problem I would like to share. Maybe you can help me to solve them. First of all the fitment is kinda shitty and I really would imagine that for $1k it would be better than $150 eBay kit.

After all the cutting done I installed it ok, so here are my main concerns:
1. There is low-ash frequency howling/whining sound at 1500-2000rpm. I did some searching and people were suggesting that the radiator are in contact with wheel lying that is causing the noise. I double checked it and my radiators ahem enough clearance, but still "resonate". Is it possible that you need some sort of insulation between the radiatosr and the brackets (original one is seating on rubber washers as we know)? Any one still here who were able to fight this vibration?
2. Can someone recommend what are the softest 10AN oil lines you can use, as the one that come with the kittening are to rigid to pack properly behind the right headlight? Can you switch from 10AN to 8AN?

I know it is a long shot as its been a long time, but maybe somebody can help. Thanks!
