E92 to M3 Conversion – HP Autowerks Way!

Just got back from a visit to HP Autowerks in Santa Barbara and I have a few treats to share. First, I want to give a thumbs up to all the guys over at HP Autowerks. Peter did all the work on my car, and it is a top notch install. Peter … you ROCK! And Harold, thanks for all your insight and help during the time I was contemplating making this purchase. Second, all those good things you have heard about doing this conversion is true!! This car has transformed its self into a totally different animal. If you are thinking about doing the conversion, give these guys a call. And if you live near the west coast, head over to Santa Barbara for a totally awesome install. HP Autowerks will take care of you.

Here is a list of things that were installed.

You can't go wrong with Harold and HP

I'm about half way there (no rear sub-frame bushings or rear conversion). I find the $ to replace the sub-frame bushings to be prohibitive. As a result I had to go #400/600.

What did you pay to get the bushings done? Also, you running an LSD?

Unbelievable setup! I ultimately want to do most of the same to my car and plan to source through HP. Install is still up in the air.

Do they have an alignment rack as well? If not, is there a shop nearby to handle, and dial in the camber plates? I don't want to have to drive back down to LA with everything out of whack, so proximity to a quality alignment shop that understands high performance settings is the key to who does the work.

HP has a place just around the corner that does the alignment. The place specializes in race setups. They dialed it in perfectly!

I will be doing some of this soon (swift/AST), and was wondering how your 400/800 spring rate drives on the street, and on track. Some feedback would be appreciated.

I was thinking of going with 350/700. Thanks

Excellent. I'm looking forward to touring their facility at the upcoming open house next month.

Good God! You have a performance monster.

Some magazine out there should grab a hold of your car and do an article on the performance potential of the 335.

It must drive amazingly

I've got the AST/Swift combo at 400/600. Very good manners on the road and can be dialed in for track. Would have gone 400/800 but Harold suggests new rear subframe bushings for that, otherwise too much slop in the back to handle it.

How much does the track width differ after the conversion?

Thanks! I think I have decided that I will be doing the rear bushings, which will cost me an arm and a leg I know, so now I am looking at either 350/700 or 400/800, but would like to know if 400/800 might be too stiff for the everyday driving part.

Rips,
Just a curious question, I enjoy what you're doing, but why didn't you buy a M3 that has most of all these components?

^ Probably cause it still costs less then an M3, and some people enjoy modding.

But anyway..

threadstarter,
How much did all that run you for parts?

Sweet setup. Any chance you could PM me what the final bill was for your suspension setup?
