:shivers:

I would be afraid those aren't real, or are used at that price.

To achieve YOUR goals I would need to know the type of music you normally like, and how yo normally listen to it. Do you listen to hardcore gangster rap at high volume? Jazz at high volume. talk radio? Punk? Industrial? Do you want the neighbors to know you're coming home from work before you reach your zip code, or is this just for you? SO many factors come into play with car audio, it would be obtuse to answer that question without more info.
I mostly listen techno but not crazy techno mostly chill relaxed jazzy techno with nice deep bass etc ( this is rough example of something. )

I just want great SQ with some nice bass, Plan to add an ID or equiv 10 or so to the trunk in a VP box.

i HATE online car audio sales. It hurts the industry as a whole. If DLS is selling them then great, but be sure to get the warranty.

I do agree, I wish I could have walked in VP Electricity or 6spdcoupe's door instead of still working on my car two years later!

Seems it IS DLS doing the sale. I think I am buying a pair!

Would like to upgrade down the road just figured the 2 most important things
are first more control ( MS8 ), Little more bass ( Sub w/ AMP ), better front stage ( Center + Matching components. )

Looks like this could be a perfect match for R4's if I keep them ( ultimately I would love to keep them. ) I already own them.

You have to look more closely. Some mfr list sensitivity as dB/2.83v/1m (which = dB/1w/1m@8ohm), others list it as dB/1w/1m @ the nominal impedance of the driver.

In some cases, the real shady mfr will list dB/1w/1m @ a different impedance than the speaker altogether!

So you have to convert.

The infinity is 93dB/2.83v/1m...but....
since it is a 2ohm driver and not an 8 ohm driver, 2.83v actually = 4 watts.
At 1w/1m@2ohm it is actually only 87dB.
Fortunately, because it has a lower impedance, amps like in the MS-8 will put more watts into it. So, for example, the Rainbow 90dB/1w/1m@4ohm will have equal SPL to the infinity (90dB/2watts/1m@2ohm, on a given number of volts.

I know that's a lot but just break it down....first step is finding how the mfr (not the resellers who may screw it up in translation) is rating the speaker.
I just assumed it was at 1 watt since the site I was looking at didn't specify. The 42.9i isnt actually two ohm though I think the dcr is something like 2.36 ohms. The dls is more efficient but it is 4 ohms and more expensive. Now I'm undecided between getting the 42.9i, dls, and just adding your tweeter for my center channel. I haven't done the math yet but it seems like the dls will be a few db's louder off ms8 power. Didn't mean to thread jack sorry.

Correct...based on specifications, the DLS will be 4dB louder on the ms-8

Thanks...more sensitive/efficient (while these are not the same they are highly related).

Incidentally Jay, ive noticed youre quick to dismiss certain things as minutia/unimportant...unless... its something on which someone has misspoken.

Why the sudden frequent contributions to the forum?

just joined.

I'm picky about some things, and not about others, but mostly I'm an a-hole. I'll correct grammar, mechanics, facts...and if I'm wrong, and someone calls me out on it, and can prove it, I'll admit it.

In this case, SPL and sensitivity are measured with the same units, but are entirely different, and are often confused on the internet. It's a minor pet peeve of mine. Just like the gain knob on the amp is not a volume control....it's infuriating trying to explain that to kids who think it should always be all the way up...my explanation is always "well, son, if it were meant to be all the way up all the time it wouldn't need to be there."

But, mostly I'm just an a-hole.

Hey Taibanl, Wrote ya back... I have the OEM HiFi Setup ( 10 speaker ) 2008

Front and rear components + under seats 8's. Compiled a few setups we discussed and will be contacting Jay shortly for some info..
Im confident in installing everything been doing car audio for a while casually on and off for 15 years so I although im a little out of
the loop specs etc im more than comfortable with the install portion. If he can make me some mounts for DLS sweet! If not I may
look into a rainbow setup w/amp.

While I figure everything out its gonna be just the stock speakers + MS8 w/ Technic harness and Vibe Center... ( since there all on my floor already ).

Now with Jay (6spcoupd / Taibanl / Technic ) etc's help ill start picking everything else up for the real setup [ amps / components / etc etc ]

Welcome....and appreciate the contributions

Im all for accuracy and precision and getting called out if not...helps avpid confusion

FWIW my experience through testing multiple drivers on MS-8 power at moderate levels is that sensitivity can be a good indicator of what to expect with the 18-30w RMS provided by its IC amps....as long as you are comparing apples to apples.

I dont know how many ms-8 installs youve done, ive only done (and spent a lot of time with) my own. I like to think that myself and kaigoss have clocked enough hours trying to make up for its shortcomings that we know how to massage its tempermentalness.

Personally i have a love-hate relationship with it. When i have it dialed in, i would put it up against any first time intall anywhere ;-). It simply sounds amazing...that being said, it is not nearly as "set it and forget it" as JBL intended at launch.

I'd love to hear more about the 6to8 and the PS8 in our cars...still waiting to hear back from NielJ on DIYMA as he switched to the 6to8 from MS-8 for his mini (though he wanted ms-8, he couldnt get it dialed in... probably due to tweeter placement)

If you have experience with those. Please start some threads...specifically id love to know of thier capes...phase steering is one of my favorite things about the Logic7 in the MS-8, and would love to know what compares.

the PS-8 has not been released yet, but Fred from Arc Audio took world finals this year in his class, and got the highest single sheet score of any class using the PS-8, Arc Black series speakers, and SE amps. All this in a Saturn.

The 6to8 is VERY similar to the PS-8, with a similar price point...and it's out now. I have quite a few friends using the 6to8 in MECA and IASCA competition, and they love it.

You will need a laptop to fine tune, but you can program 8 preset tunes into them, and switch between them without a laptop. I spent a week tuning my Kia, let it sit for a week, then went back and retuned it. That was with the BitOne...I've since removed it because my wife drives it now, and can't stand having a system in the car.

A proper tune can take weeks. Just be prepared for that

correct. The PS-8 and BitOne hold 8 presets. The 6to8 only holds 4 presets. Their control is available in Beta to certain people..I am not one of those people...yet.

Hi Daryl, I would be more than happy to help you here and it seems these guys certainly have you on the right track with information ! Feel free to call, PM or email anytime and if/when up for it take a trip up to Edison. mypearltpi@aol.com 732-572-1969

Since you are a bit into your home audio too, perhaps you can enjoy some Dynaudio, Brystom, Parasound Halo, Anthem, McIntosh, etc in our waiting area as well.
