Another set of KW springs going into the dumpster!

We are converting yet another set of KW V3 with Swift springs, this time with the request of the owner to install helpers springs. No camber plates were requested as the car is strictly a daily driver for the time being. The additional negative camber needed to reduce understeer will come from the slight lowering of the car and M3 wishbones and proper selection of spring rates. We settled on 400F and 800R for this particular project.

With the installation of Swift springs and thrust sheets some of the noise that has plagued the KW V1, 2, 3 or even the CS may be a thing of the past.

As you can see the use of Swift springs make the front coilover over setup more compact and lighter by about 2 lbs.

Spring rates are disclosed in the op as 400F and 800R.

Way better than the KW V3 out of the box that is for sure. Less noise and better handling are just few other benefits with the Swift spring conversion.

I never realized how wide the KW springs were up top when compared to the Swift. So the swift springs and KW springs both fit the stock upper mounts the same?

Yes, pretty much. We have a custom upper spring perch/hat that makes everything work perfectly and with much improved performance.

Do your kits with the swift springs come with this perch or would it need to be purchased separately?

How do they improve handling? What's different?

Also what noise? I have KW V2s, can't hear any suspension noise going over bumps ect.
Maybe it's audible from outside?

Through the use of high quality Swift linear rate springs for much more consistent rates throughout their stroke. Progressive rate springs can have rates all over the place as they compress.

Metal on metal contact isn't good, Swift thrust sheets are added to reduce noise, but the biggest benefit is allowing the springs to wind and unwind to reduce rate spikes, the net result, again, is more consistent spring rates.

I'll bump it too as I want to know what noise(s) you've experienced with these KWs and, equally important, how the Swift spring alleviated it/them.

I have some STs and they make a crazy annoying groan (low pitch) squeak. If I place my hand on the spring itself I can "feel" the noise/vibration which makes me think it's the springs.

I see how explained how the Swift springs' setup helps with noise. Wonder if my stock STs are binding to a degree as the rotate...

Nearly all coilover will have some spring binding as there is metal to metal contact. If you ever watch a coil spring compress, it actually winds up and when it decompresses it unwinds. If that rotating motion is somehow been limited(by upper and lower perches typically), you will get noise. Swift thrust sheets will help with that. Bearings will too, but at a much higher cost and require more maintenance.
