Project Carbon Fiber

From the first time I ever saw carbon fiber in/on a car, I loved the look of it. So when I bought my E90 recently, I decided I would finally put CF in and on the car. So far, I have wrapped my interior trim, (including steering wheel trim and paddle shifters), but also my side view mirror covers, and rear diffuser of my Mtech bumper.

It was cheaper for me to buy CF splitters and rear performance style spoiler than to wrap some...so I got them from Ebay.

Today, I installed my mirrors...I love the look and how it breaks up the solid color of the car.

Here is a sample of the pieces I have in CF now. Next week, the rear bumper gets installed along with the front splitters and rear spoiler.

Some people will think it is too much CF, but I like it and that is all that matters! Questions or comments are welcome...good bad and indifferent.

I will add more pictures as pieces get added. Thanks for looking and enjoy.

Looks good

How did you give it the "wet" carbon fiber look?

Thanks, i appreciate it.

It is real carbon fiber...not vinyl. I skinned the mirror covers and interior trim...so lots of resin, sanding and automotive clear coat...more sanding, and polishing. It is labor intensive....but I love the look.

thanks dude! The mirrors have lots of contour to them...had to be careful so I wouldn't get any puckering in the material, but I do enjoy working with CF...it is relaxing and I like seeing the final result.

I bought an extra set of mirror caps, so if I messed up, I would have the montego blue ones too! I might wrap them too, just to do some more.

hey D! Thanks, I love the look too. I have gotten in the spoiler and splitter and they are not nearly as glossy as what I did myself. The diffuser was hard to do, since it was so big. I don't want to do anymore diffusers! haha i took it to the body shop so they can install it and the bumper on my car mid next week. Will get pics of it then.

Love the trim, wish someone could make them more affordable

Nice work, must have been fun since you knew what you were doing... I'd probably give up in 30minutes and cry.

Yeah, I have been looking for the lip for a long time! At $138 for the lip already in CF, is worth it. Takes about 5 days minimum to CF a piece because of the cure time on the resin and waiting for the clear to dry, etc. Patience is key!

It was fun...and I learn almost every time I try a new piece. CF is so expensive because of the labor...especially if doing it by hand. Every piece is worked by hand, sanding, etc....so it is a lot of work, but I enjoy it.

$750 is very fair...actually a really good price. I have seen them on ebay for $1400-$2000 for OEM trim. What I like is the different colors. Carbon Fiber is the traditional black material...the colors you see is actually Kevlar. I just bought some orange kevlar to do a buddies bowties on his Orange Camaro. They will look good! I did another set in black for another buddy. I owned a new Camaro before I bought my BMW and still hang with a lot of them from the Camaro club.

When I read your post, I thought to myself there's no way this much carbon fiber vinyl will ever look good.

Vinyl wrap will never look as good as this. It looks great man. If wrap could look like this I'd have alot more CF on my car too.

I totally agree. I put "CF" vinyl on a car once and took it off about 3 days later. Just didn't do anything for me. Some vinyl is OK, but it will never have that 3D deep wet look.

Thanks for the compliment!

Thanks. I agree...I am only adding a few more pieces...that I mentioned. The splitters, rear performance spoiler, and possibly a lip under the splitters.

I don't want it to look like a few yards of carbon fiber threw up on the car. HAHA
