Post Issue with BMW!

Hey guys,

Awhile ago i noticed my car was leakingand so i took it into bmw for a check up it turned out to be a oil sump leak. i proceeded with getting it fixed and left the car at the dealership the next day i received a call saying there was an issue with my starter? the car was fine before i even took it in.. yeah had that replaced as well, then list goes on lol. anyways it was $4,090 all up to fix.

during that time my car was for sale ,so i had a buyer requesting to inspect it drove it Richmond (buyers bro was a mechanic)
they both looked at the car then told me there was an oil leak? bolts were missing for engine cover, bad practice from bmw.

i took it to bmw the next day requesting them to fix the matter for me as bmw had possession of my car during the last service. they refused.

spoke to consumers affair but they did shit all, was told go straight to vtacc but not sure..

Sorry you had a bad experience. Unfortunately the starters on these cars just go without a whole lot of warning. Mine crapped out 2 days after i bought the car. As far as oil leaks, I've been chasing a few on my car for the past few months. Kinda seems like when I fix one, another springs up. I know a lot of people like to flame the dealers for high bills and added on maintenance, but its probably just your cars fault. When I changed my valve cover gasket there were 3 broken/missing bolts. Apparently this is common on the N52s if you search around.

I would fight that hard - for the price they charged (and being representatives of the brand name) they've got zero margin to get away with negligence.

I was also told during my pre purchase inspection that the sump was leaking - it turned out to just be the oil filter housing. Just that it had been leaking for a while and there was oil at the bottom of the engine case (sump). I bought the oil filter housing gasket and fixed myself for $15 + oil change.

I think it seems highly unlikely the sump itself was leaking. Are you sure it was leaking, or they just told you so?

And what were they doing removing the engine cover? the sump is on the bottom of the engine...

Well my car was leaking from the sump as well and gear box too!

They had to take my whole gear box apart and reseal it.

That came to a total bill of ~$4100 as well.

I think you should get a second opinion instead of relying on a random buyer and his brother. The oil leak they speak of may just be left over residue from the previous leak which BMW Wav didn't clean up 100%. Unless of course you saw it in person on their hoist... in which case, +1 to lemonparks suggestion

im telling you man, just go back to BMW tell them you're not happy with it and just get angry but don't make TOO much of a scene, if all fails tell them you're gonna take it up with BMW Australia, also tell them you're telling all your family and friends to never buy a BMW again lol

oh shit!
I would call BMW Australia and explain the situation to them if you already haven't. Just really try to get your point across that it is unacceptable from such a business as BMW. I can't think of other ways unless you get a lawyer or something

1. Go back to bmw dealer and demand to speak to the director. Explain the issue and warn him that if things are not taken care of in 24 hours that you will take the matter to bmw australia. Should fix the problem and show genuinely why you are upset with the situation. If its genuinely their fault, they should be thanking you for addressing the problem so that it does not happen to the next customer. I've come across dealer problems before and you need to keep their mouth shut from day 1 otherwise you'll get one unexpected repair bill one after another. Unfortunately premature servicing is how dealerships make their money.
