Identify the part

So I'm going to be familiarizing myself with my car over the next few days, weeks, maybe even months. Hoping you guys can help me identify whats what under the hood. This is my first bmw, my old car was a little acura integra which I played around with a lot, even built an engine for it, so I'm not going into this without any knowledge of engines whats so ever, but I've never been under the hood of a bmw. Which brings me to the purpose of this thread, identify the part .

I'm having a hard time figuring out what this is, its probably real simple too:

Ok cool, thanks man. So when I need to change the oil and filter I just unscrew that cap and the filter will be sitting there for me to unscrew it out? Or is it a little more complicated than that.

Just unscrew the cap and the filter comes off with it. Very simple, here is a DIY with pics where you can see that in action:

Yep, you will unscrew the cap and the filter is right there to pull out.

When you get a filter it will usually come with 1 or 2 o-rings to replace on the filter cover also.

Garage List
There's a "special" tool sold to remove the cap BUT you can use a generic strap wrench to do so as well. Just be careful not to over-tighten the strap or apply too much force, which might deform or crack the cap.

Get a cap tool. Much easier to remove with the correct tools.

I have not tried this, but was browsing Harbor Freight Tools store and came across a set of Oil filter cap tools.
All different sizes.
It was pretty cheap too like under 10.

Anyone tried the HF oil filter tool?

Ok Harbor freight oil filter cap tool won't work.
Wrong size.

According to the amazon post above, we need 86mm.

Got another one for you guys. What is this, and should it be poking out under the radiator fan like it is here?

Welcome y'all to another wonderful round of... *queue audience*... Identify that part!!

Alright guys, here we go again. So I'm working on finding a coolant leak on my 09 e90. I THINK I've found the house with the leak. I figure since its just a hose I'll just swap it and see if it's still leaking. The problem is, I can't find the hose. I snapped a pic of what appears to be the BMW part number printed on the hose but I can't find a thing with those numbers. I checked real OEM, and while I think I'm looking at the right page, I still can't tell what hose this is. Pics below. Thanks in advance!

Edit (here is the realoem page I've been looking at): http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/show...diagId=11_3755

Lower radiator hose: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/show...50#17127531581

Be sure you bleed the coolant correctly after you refill it.

I was looking in the wrong place . Thanks for your help, I'll be swapping the hose this weekend or the following. Hopefully that fixes the leak.
