General Traffic stores have a great offer on now.

5L concentrate (box of 4 = 20L) for £9!!

So I bought 40L, great stuff, smells nice too.

I use it neat now so it never freezes (well at -37, so should be ok)

Great to just spray straight onto frozen / iced glass and drive away, headlight sprayers never freeze either.

Must be NEAT concentrate though.

The BMW stuff is recommended so as not to block the little filters at the bottom of the water tank. They are a pain to get to so I reckon its worth using the BMW stuff.

I bought a 5L from the authorised BMW store on Ebay, wasn't cheap but its genuine. My dealer strangely could not supply 5L jars but offered if I brought in a jar that they would fill it from their bulk supply. They quoted about £20 for this.

But as discussed in previous posts, it is very very good right down to -63 centigrade.

I have a 20L tank of the stuff in my garage that works out a lot cheaper than Halfords own brand.

Why not take a look at the great E90Post Screen Wash Thread (yes this is 5 pages and 98 posts on the subject but don't forget the tap)

Thanks all, I was quoted £20 + VAT from my dealer sure I'd seen it cheaper in some thread - think it was in the above, I'll have a look - thanks again.

But it has to be neat to give -63degC protection, and in this weather I'm using 5 litres neat every 2 or 3 days.....

I think the gunking issue is due to people not running a strong enough mix to kill mould and bacteria.

I've gone back to using non-BMW cheap stuff for a year now, no issues, and the General Traffic stuff smells nice to, rather than smelling of methanol like others do.

And at £9 for 20L that's a good deal in anyones book....

I use whatever Costco are stocking at the time. It's always a decent brand-name (Holts, Prestone etc), comes in 5L and is pretty cheap.

I notice that Prestone are now producing different products for winter (ice guarding formula) and summer (bug-shifting formula). It's going to make the Winter Tyre threads look like meditation sessions .

-63degC!! I know it can get a bit nippy but surely that's a bit extreme. It must be fine to dilute it 1:2 or even 1:3?

I def would not use the BMW stuff neat, it seems very strong stuff and would hate to think what it would do to paintwork once the pesky headlight washers have done their bit.

I mixed mine 4:1 and it seems plenty strong enough and won't freeze unless extremely cold.

Might just buy a couple of litres and add a litre of water 2:1 based on the above

I use it neat to stop the headlamp washers freezing. In terms of what it does to paintwork: nothing.

Each to their own but I certainly won't be leaving it neat on my paint for too long.

Fluid usually gunges up when you mix different brands.

Stick with one brand and it should be fine.
