335i vs 6mt 350z
had some fun with my local friend and his 6mt 350z. i think its a 04 or something im not sure. all he has is a intake setup.
i have SSTT and drop in K&N. we did a 60mph roll to 110mph. me and him cannot believe how hard i walked him. by the end i was 3-4 cars but i just pulled so hard. i even gave him a car lead. just wanted to share this as it was a fun race but sometimes the smoothness of the 335i really hides it speed and power. SSTT ftw! |

lol... i was cruising home last night and saw a E46 M3. he gave me thumbs up and stuff, then he asked if it's fast, and that he knows nothing about the new generation. we were going like 40 or something. i said let's try, we both put in 2nd, and he's like waaaaay in the back before even the gear ended
he's like WTF was that about!!!!!!!! |

I also had a run with a 350z on the freeway a while back. He was driving aggressively and I wanted show him something. He tried to to stay in front of me at first and when the other lane opened up, I passed him and he was like many car lengths behind (5+) and I just kept on pulling until there was traffic.

yea the 335i's are pretty good highway cars. i mean when i go inside my friends 350z im like damn this thing is fast.
i guess the 6mt and rawness feeling of the 350z makes it feel really fast. my 335i SSTT power delivery is really smooth, and the car itself is just queit with the windows up. i use to think 350z's are fast, now there just slow. even tho everytime i get in it it feels fast. i guess its all in the mind of the person. |

I have not had the chance to run any Z's the 335 yet.....but a year or two ago I ran a modded 6MT Z on the highway and DESTROYED him in my Volvo S60R. It was a massacre i tell you. We ran twice and from 50-140 I was so far ahead it was ridiculous. Funniest part was after that I came to a complete stop on the highway waiting for him to catch up. We lined up and ran again....domination. He was shocked that Volvo was so fast, but then again he didn't know what I had done to it. It was at 2am on a country part of a 65mph highway.........no one for miles.

My bro has a 6mt 350z also (CAI, testpipes, y-pipe, exhaust), and we did some runs when my car was bone stock and we were even until the end of 2nd or so, but once we hit 3rd I would start to pull on him hard so its not much a surprise since you have a SSTT. Z's are very fun cars to drive though.
When I use to run my bro's car with my s2k it wasn't even funny how badly I could pull on him. He use to get a good head start and then he would just laugh as I blasted by him by the next gear. When my s2k was NA though, our races were just about as close to a driver's race as you could get though, it just depended at what gear/speed we would take off from. Those runs were a lot more fun because it actually took skill to edge out the other car and win. Good times.

s2000 wanted to race me the other day. I accelerated as some traffic cleared to the speed limit, then all of a sudden I see these blue lights FLYING up behind me and go around me. So I started following him, there was traffic though. The idiot would dart and weave through traffic like a maniac then take off when it cleared. I just sort of followed him safely. Finally he got the idea and slowed down where traffic was clear rather then running off like an idiot.
I didn't know s2000s were that slow.

I believe it.
I ran neck in neck with a 350Z that was supercharged, had intake and exhaust, as well as a carbon fiber trunk lid, custom wheels, etc. We went from 60-150 on a private road and neither could pull away from the other. 07 350Z's with the new 306 hp SAE rated 3.5 liter are pretty quick and will give a stock 335i a good run, but will still come out a CL back. But the 04's would be 2-3 CL's back stock, with a piggyback of anykind on the 335i and it's not even close. Nice |

I HATE when people try and talk to me while driving from their car. Especially since they are always the type of people who can't do two things at once (talk and steer) and always end up drifting into my lane.

When I bought my 03 350Z I thought it would be pretty good against most BMW's - and it was in the twisties. But anytime a straightaway came up I was dogmeat to 328's and 330's. Lots of guys in CA added turbos to give it some grunt but the usual outcome was blown heads or pistons.
It was a blast to tool around in and was perfect as a Gran Turisimo. Two people, adequate baggage room, regular gas and 30mpg. The stocks seats were the equal of my $1500 sport seats. I hated to part with it but my 335i does all that and more. Premium gas, though. I laughed when the new ones came out with over 300hp advertised. Same torque rating so it will never come close to a E92, even with added turbo's. |

Nice!
On the track, however, I give the 350Z a lot of credit especially at it's price and with the right equipment. They have much faster steering response (but less road feel) than the 335i and the handling is much flatter and stiffer with noticeably less understeer. The combo gives it almost a go-kart feel. It rotates nicely and brakes superbly with the brembos. The pedal spacing sucks for heel/toe. The handling will equalize the two on a track without 1/4 mile long straights, stock to stock and the Z with the track package. Oh yeah, and they don't reach blistering oil temps.
