+1 to this , solstice will NOT be classic. A bit bias don't you think?

Pontiac Solstice GXP Coupe
Honda S2000 (huge maybe)

Several cars guessed started well over $50k, and still won't work. There will be no collectible V8 Ferraris - not the 360, 430, or 458 (nope, not even the Stradale and such). These cars will follow the same well-worn path as the 3x8 cars and the 355. The same applies to any entry-level platform Porsche - the 968, the 986, and the 987 will never be more than dirt cheap. The so-called special editions (Design Edition, Spyder, CS, R, etc) will decline as well, though we'll see deluded owners asking crazy money for them for years to come.

Hell I'd even cast my vote for the Terminator as a classic.

But I did forget about the Cobra R. Nice rare car for sure ('93 and '95 as well).

I specified the Solstice GXP coupe, not the roadster I own.

You guys realize that this is a low-production volume sports car and one of the last cars produced by the Pontiac brand? People are already asking more than MSRP for them. Just because you're not into domestics doesn't make them undesirable to a sizable chunk of the population. The phenomenon is identical to the metric that makes the Z3 M Coupes more valuable than the Z3 M Roadsters, just a different market.

As for the 308: I wrote that any old car can be a classic. There are classic Gremlins, Vegas, Pacers, Yugos. For a car to be a collectible, it has to reach a value exceeding its original purchase price. Mid-engine V8 Ferraris depreciate - period. Too many cars, too often poorly maintained, poor bang for the buck. Michael Sheehan, Ferrari writer for Sports Car Market, says this in every other issue, and history has born him out so far.

A classic has to have some desirability. And a horrible engine would pretty much seal its fate and put it into the "buy one cheap' category.

The only Solstice GXP roadster's that will be sought after will be the very few vette powered V8 ones.

I dont know. It does not have to be about the current going price but the way it is perceived, if it has a good reputation, the value will follow in a few years when most have inevitably been ruined. The S2000 and the M3 are good bets, just dont know about the Pontiac.

The Mallett cars. As far as I know, they didn't do any coupes and only 20 or so roadsters. Not long after they made them the company closed its doors but I've heard they're back in business. Oddly, I've already seen Mallett Solstices going for $20k.

Nobody's mentioned the Chrysler/Plymouth Prowler? Sure, as a car it was absolutely awful, but as a collectible- well it looks good, it has a lot of personality, and it was produced in low volume, so I think it ticks all the right boxes.

Supra... hands down, it's a rather ugly car but it still has one of the greatest engines ever produced. Toyota hasn't had and wont make a product like this for a while!
