CDV delete experience.

This morning I deleted my CDV because I was sick of it catching and burning the clutch on hard launches.

Anyways my first impressions were :

1. Shifts really smooth

2. No more hesitation between shifts

3. I can feather @ a higher RPM / do burnouts without worrying about burning my clutch.


Anyways tonight I put my CDV delete to the test. I drove around waiting for my car to warm up and did a few launches.

I did 3 launches. All from a 2.5k-2.7k feather G teched @ 4.5ish 0-60. Felt really good.

Then I did a few rolls. Noticed that 2nd to 3rd I cant shift too fast because I grind. I guess I was just too use to having the CDV in.


Anyways heading back home I ran into a turbo upgraded sti. Did a roll from a 40-110 pulled about 1 CL from 40-110. But he ended up miss shifting into 4th. (I got video but its crappy)

We are basicly in the middle of no where since I was out there testing my CDV delete and he was testing his clutch.

So for fun I asked him if he wanted to do a run from a dig. He says ya so we end up going.

Im feathering at 2.6k rpms, 3 honks and we go. I notice my clutch start to slip. I shift it into 2nd, still slipping, im @ 6.5k rpms shift into 3rd.... still slipping. I thought my tires were spinning from 1st to 2nd. But right when I shifted into 3rd I knew and stopped right away.

I think I was in denial because I removed my CDV and said to myself " this shit isnt supose to be happening anymore. "


So basicly up ended up burning my clutch a little. I talked to the guy, find out he lives right down the street from me. After we talk he leaves and im still kinda upset that my clutch slipped like that.

I end up doing 2 more launches before I headed home and everything was fine.

Now I was wondering, anyone that has done the CDV delete experience the clutch slip from launches if you start at an aggressive rpm?

Oh and also my clutch isnt starting to slip. This has only happened to me on digs about 3 times so far. Reason why I did the CDV delete.

Its happened to me in this car and in my S4 its just sometimes it feels like i dont launch right and the clutch is burning and slipping all the way thru 3rd gear. I stop the car for like 5 minutes launch again and everything is fine, I guess its just maybe riding the clutch too long in too high an rpm seems to be when it happens. I did the CDV mod a while ago too. Its much better!

I still have yet to test it out. But so far its not too bad, I was kinda dissapointed in the launch i had with the sti.

As for cruising its tons smoother. On digs its not too bad as long as the clutch grabs perfectly.

Ya I thought so also. Its weird tho because on my s4 this never happened. But then again I never really aggressively launched it as hard as I do my 335.

Ive felt it when im going on an uphill launch. Like when you "balance" the clutch @ 2k+rpms or more while on a uphill slant. You give it just enough clutch so your not moving back or forward. It seems like this is when i see the problem happen.

As long as its normal its all good.

Ya the CDV delete makes the shifts a lot more smoother, no more hesitation when changing gears. I hated that feeling.

The only time I have ever experienced slippage is when I tried to launch in 2nd. I think I engaged the clutch too slowly and the power buildup made it such that the clutch never grabbed and it just slipped all the way to redline. Since then, I've never had that issue again.

CDV delete is absolutely necessary in my mind.

Most likely was all the heat you put into the the clutch with your repeated launching. When the organic material the clutch is made of gets hot, the coeff of friction drops significantly. Think of brake fade, its the same kind of deal.

I wasnt launching back to back tho. The 3 launches were spread out in a matter of 20-30 mins.

Its been for a while now. I have about 8.2k miles on the car. Probably 6k is hard driving.

Most of the hard driving is races from roll too. So I havent abused the clutch too bad.
