First Speeding ticket in WI (boy was it a good one)
I can't believe I am even creating a post on about this, but whatever. I am 35 and got my first speeding ticket ever today going 79 in a 55. I had a weird whrrrr sound coming from the rear and was trying to see if the pitch of the noise changed with speed...bad idea. A Dane county sheriff tagged me coming from the other direction. Ticket was $225 with 6 points. I plan on going to court on 4/2 to hopefully get a bit of help.
My real concern is with my insurance rates. I have been with American Family forever. Does anyone know how they handle a first time ticket?

Yes. Sh** happens. A single ticket does not normally affect your rates unless it's DUI, reckless etc. You while find actual numbers on google like this. You can provide some helpful info to this community by telling us which detector you are using ? Did you get enough warning to slow down ? (the sound you talk about in your post..) User error or radar fail ?

I don't understand this comment. Can you explain? I am definitely going to court on 4/2.

if you are driving 65 on 55 zone then they don't mind. You may get a ticket doing +11.
I was told once you have +10 miles buffer but it may not apply on a 25 zone. |

OP, first ticket shouldn't be too terrible on your insurance, as long as your driving record's been clean up until now. Try to explain your situation in court as well, might help. Good luck!

I got busted just outside of Beaver Dam last summer doing 71 in a 55 heading to Madison. It was my first ticket in over 10 years and I also American Family; those bastards dinged me when my insurance came up for renewal in February. AmFam uses a third party service to monitor driving records. If they up your insurance for the ticket, they'll let you know and give you the info to contact the third party to see exactly what they found in the report. I'm still waiting to get the report myself and for the life of me can't remember the name of the service. Anyway, I think my insurance only went up about $70 for 6 months and some of that was because I went from a 2007 328 to a 2010 335.
