Mmm intercooler.
Still working on the dyno run, just need a date to set it up. I hope this weekend, if not it'll be the next. At the very least I will do a JBD/no JBD run with an IC on, lol.

I tell ya Im enamored with this IC it looks so clean thats one of the reasons I bought it let alone the ONLY one for our 335d at the time, I tell people I have a bigger IC and they dont believe it until they get close to the grill and then they say whoa!! sweet looking thing even my mechanic praise the craftsmanship and quality of it. you wont regret it Monk!!

It's fairly light, although I have never held an IC before. If the install is an easy 45mins, I might take my under panels off before the dyno, that way it's a quick swap for the before/after.
I plan to do a close to a scientifically done mpg highway test as I can record. I am just so tempted to put it on tonight though lol. I'll try to contain myself.

I believe this IC is actually heavier than the OEM one. Do we have any empirical (real world) data that it in fact works and does what it's supposed to do?

intercoolers are tough to provide real world data on for the normally accepted version (dyno). Dyno's CAN help but really dont anwer the questions usually. Best way to show improvement for an intercooler is a 1/4 mile pass IMO. Before and after datalogs showing any difference in MAF voltage reading and after intercooler IAT is a close second.

So I installed the Wagner IC today. Was a bit annoying, and yes there was some trimming I had to do to some piece behind the bumper.
I recorded a MPG run before the install. It was 4miles, with a trip at 65mph, looped back, did a hard pull to 70mph, and cruised at that speed and turned around while waiting at a red light for a few mins. I achieved 29mpg. I did the same thing right after the install, with the same conditions (A/C, engine temp, fuel level) and got 33mpg. I have noticed MPG's were higher at 75mph vs 65mpg. The stock IC would bring temps at full boost to around 17-20f above ambient, this one does a steady 10f. I have noticed a slight increase in power above 70mph. These are my results, take them with a grain of salt if you want. There has been an improvement, although slight, with the install of this IC. I hope heatsoak is nullified now. I cannot tell if it is yet with these low ambient temps though.

Thanks for posting.
Curious, did you notice any oil in your oem intercooler? Did you try to drain it out and see how much had collected in there? If you had the opportunity to try to measure how much, if any, was collected in there I'd appreciate hearing about it. |

I was looking at the site and the shipping was $43 unless you had a code. Anyone know this code for free shipping? I tried the obvious one, FREESHIP. It says invalid. Does the part ship from Germany?

The site is showing $650 + shipping. Does anyone know the code for discount or discounted shipping at least? "If you don't ask, the answer is always no."

Ok let me clear once and for all WAGNER used 335d wagon as the guinea pig for the ic that could be reason why we had to trim different facia and under carriage

Cutting was fairly easy. I would use a dremel though to make life easier. A pair of wire cutters were used by me, although it gave kind of a hack job appearance.

Thanks Monk. How much area is needed to be cut out, roughly speaking?

I would say 1-2" deep and as wide as the piece itself. I cut until where the fins met the base.
