About a month ago I bought some FK Highsports:



Here are the results. The upper pictures are with SE suspension fitted and 18 inch WSP wheels fitted, the lower pictures are with the Highsports fitted.

The wheel was measured from the bottom of the outside rim to the wheel arch.

Before: 614 / 623 / 607 / 602 mm
After: 586 / 587 / 608 / 611 mm





I may alter them further but for now I think it looks quite good with the drop that it has.

Performance wise, the kit is quite soft on the road. I expected it to be firmer. As others have reported I have a knocking/clunking noise at low speed on uneven surfaces. Not sure if its the drop links or not, but they are brand new from FK.

Do you have any knocking noises mate? You are using FK droplinks?

I think the knocking / clunking is a common trait of FK suspension. I never had them in any of my BMW's but did have them on 3 different VW's and it was the same story. I think the top cap (on the shock was a bit loose on one of them). It was fine once tightened up, but still clunked a bit.

Plenty of folk are happy with them. But there are a few who comment about a noise, which I am getting. It sounds like drop links tbh, but until I have a proper look i can't tell. I'll get to the bottom of it

Car looks great, I had FK on my previous Audi TT. Gave the best drop, but they did clonk allot.

I have a little knock from the front left. But as BMWAK said it's a undertightend nut on the shock that supposedly causes it, once tightened it pretty much cures it. Or so i've been told by mates who've ran FK's for years.

For the price you can pay (Up to 2k) for some coilovers, the FK's are very good value in my opinion.

I had the same on my Polo, just after one year one of the springs snapped and the actual coil collar broke into 3 pieces.

Make sure you keep them greased up properly as they have the worsed protection ever and rust in no time.

Nope... I still can't believe what I'm reading.

It looks better, but it handles slightly worse than before and about 75% of owners have knocks caused by suspect workmanship? But that's ok right, coz they are cheap....?

What about when the fucking wheel falls off and your 10-15-20k car ends up binned in a ditch?

Looks pretty cool but surely it knackers the handling and what if you need to fill the car up with your buddies or some bags of cement

Knocking noises.
Could be the top nut, but you'd need to be ham fisted to not tighten it.
If you are stupid, it's possible to lose a washer or assemble the turret bearing parts wrong though.

My money is on crap hardware though, and the top bush banging.
Bilstein had a run on this too a few years ago, at least four of us on here had similar issues.

The top turret bearings can wear on old cars too, and maybe harder damping has shown that fault up.
But again - fitters should spot that a mile off, and you can tell before dropping the front out.

Passivated steel tubes and what looks like alloy collars - a recipe for disaster. Get it greased up well.

Nice to see a red E90 BTW - quite rare.

The drop looks good but did you not buy the car to drive it around from time to time?

I got a set of these for my last car because they were cheap - the quality of them, however, was shocking. Just looking at them in the flesh you can tell they are weedy as anything. I ended up binning them and fitting a Bilstein/Eibach combo - absolutely day and night, both in terms of build quality and actual performance on the road. False economy to buy cheap imo, I certainly learned my lesson.

When I took the car out with the FKs on, the handling was so bad it was dangerous! Under sprung and under damped. Horrible, horrible suspension.

On a budget yes, but even so, for a proper setup you'd need to change your shocks for uprated ones as well. The BMW shocks are designed for the standard ride height, any less and they'd start losing its damping capabilities very quickly.

I'd rather buy suspension components from a proper manufacterer like KW, Bilstein or Eibach than one that is 'jack of all trades'.

OP If you are happy with them other than the clunking and bouncy ride then all good fella Just remember to keep the threads well lubricated. I found giving them one proper coat of bike chain wax prevented them from seizing up in the 2 years I had them.
