sad day, possible HPFP died

so looks like my HPFP has died. car started and died, wont stay running. this happened out of no where, no symptoms or anything. car drove normal just like any other day, even made it to work without any hiccups. waited 5 hours for a tow truck that wasa small enough to make its way into an underground parkade and pull the car out, which took another hr to jack up as the car was so low on stock suspension............................

captured a short video of it cranking

r the hpfp covered under warranty? 10 years? even with small mods such as intakes and oil catch cans?

car got towed to autowest bmw after hours

feels like a part of me has died, even tho i knew such a problem exists. never knew it would happen so early on, car is a 2011 335is with only 48000KM on it

if it's hpfp, usually you will experience very rough startup and the car will shake a lot before it dies on you.

why don't you scan it and find out what the actual problem is?

That was my experience as well.

Correct course of action. Appropriately condescending tone.

Yes car had rough startin, then studders n dies out. Engine is def misfiring bad as the whole car shakes pretty violently. No OBD tool with me to do any scans, got it towed straight to dealer

Is that necessary? To some people, their cars means a lot to them. Really no need to call them a "kid" and all.

OP: Wow, 48k seems really early.. Hopefully everything works out for you!

Mine happened 2x. first when it was under 20,000km and then again at around upper 20,000km. Soon after, got rid of the car altogether. Had enough.

Cars mean a lot to nearly all of us on this board; that's presumably why we're here. But most of us have some perspective on their relative importance in life, all things considered. The OP does not appear to, and that merits some introspection on their part. An HPFP failure is generally just an irritation and an inconvenience, albeit a common and foreseeable one. If it leaves you suddenly stranded on the side of a remote dirt road, or blocking traffic during a busy festival (I've had both, now) it might even qualify as a minor safety concern. But to be very clear, no part of anyone died in the OP's parking garage last week, and if it feels like it did they should try to take a deep breath and remember that it's just a car and it will be fixed free of charge. They will receive a loaner during the repair period, and if they wish to make a stink with the manager, telling a sad story, expounding on the significant grief they have suffered, and perhaps even welling up a little in the eyes over the anguish that they've endured they may even be so lucky as to exchange their last shred of dignity for a complimentary set of floor mats.

Relative importance.. OP said "a part of me" That "part" could be 1%, 5%, 20% who knows.

My car's been undriveable for the past 6 weeks, and is still at the dealer right now. I can also say that it felt like a "part" of me died as well. But then again, I'm under 25. Us kids nowadays, eh?

You already quoted the correct answer: 10 years or 200,000 km. If you are below both thresholds the extended HPFP warranty still applies to you.

pls do post a vid of u eating a hat on youtube, oh rmb to have a piece of paper with ur name on it too so we can prove u did eat a hat!

every person has different aspects in their lives that are important to them, for me, cars r a big part. i choose to drive to work everyday even tho public transit would've costed 1/4 of the monthly cost in parking, gas and insurance to drive to work, so yes i do love cars that much.

as for the outcome from the dealer, turns out it was the hpfp failing, it was injectors. they replaced all 6 injectors at a cost of $3600, but goodwilled a big portion of it. split 60/40 with me so i ended up paying $1200 only. i had my bet on hfpf too but surprisingly it wasn't. and yes i do foresee hfpf failing someday when getting this car, but just not so sudden as there were no symptoms at all.

How come u have to pay ?

When mine failed, dealer replaced injectors coils at no charge (he did say without hpfp warranty, it would be $2000)

I'm having the same symptoms on my 328i... Someone told me its my eccentric shaft sensor. i parked my car up for the last week and I've been using my winter daily for the time being. i keep shutting off at stops and its really messed up not being able to move at an intersection on a green light
