Radiator to reservoir hose snapped help!
So i was in the process of removing the radiator fan so I can have more room to do my oil filter gasket when I was moving the reservoir hose out of the way it just snapped. Noticed it was made out of plastic. Unfortunately, the part the connect to resevoir looks like it's easily removable, the other end however connects to radiator and looks to have some sort of special clamp.
Can this be replaced w/out special tools? please help.

Its a German factory version of a warm clamp.
just remove it with pliers you can even destroy it go to an auto paorts store and get a hose that fits and 2 things like this: you will be just fine |

I've replaced this hose. BMW updated the part and the plastic part of the hose now goes all the way to the reservoir. In your case the quick fix is get some 3/8rubber coolant hose a few feet long and replace the entire hose that broke. The reservoir side has a special connector, but you can cut the band off the female side and attach the 3/8 rubber hose to the connector and then re-conect it to the reservoir. On the radiator side, just cut the clamp-band off and the old hose will slide right off. Careful though because you can break off the bib it attaches to. Slide the other end of the new rubber hose on to the bib and secure with a 3/8 hose clamp.

the clamp is an "Oetiker clamp" but it could be replaced with other types of clamp. Personally I prefer the smooth "fuel injection" type clamps over the typical worm clamp but either will work. Worm clamps are popular as they'll work over a wide range of sizes so selecting the exact right one isn't so important.
in a pinch you could just patch the hard plastic pipe with a short section of hose and two clamps... I used to have some Oetiker clamp pliers to do a neat job of rebooting CV joints but I haven't seen them for years... |
