The rear pad 1200 mile warning has popped-up on my 09 335I. Stealers want £235 to replace them. I don't get a stamp in the book, they're not covered under the warranty as they're a wear and tear consumable. However, if I get them done outside the BMW group, replaced with genuine BMW pads and sensors and somehow get the rear pad service indicator reset, will it show up on the key fob reading when I next take it in for a service (3k miles)? I don't want there to be a discrepancy and have my warranty revoked. Half of me thinks just take the hit as I'll have piece of mind.

I have searched through the forums, but haven't quite found the answer to this.

Can't see it affecting the warranty as its a "wear and tear" item.

It looks like the CBS info on both the car (DME) and key fob are sync'd. Come next service, BMW would only therefore see that the rear pads wouldn't need doing (recently reset?), and only under some weird brake related warranty claim, they would see that they hadn't performed it by checking their main (Kerridge?) system...?

What do you mean "i won't get a stamp in the book"?

Anywork by anybody should get a stamp. Even if i did them myself i'd tick the box and write my name in the stamp box.

If it take mine to my indy for brake pads, he ticks the brake pad box, puts the mleage in and stamps the page,.

Who wouldn't?

I didn't think/see it... I just thought non-consumable items were recorded there. I just checked the service book, there is a part for front and rear brakes! Thank you Doughboy. Just out of interest, how do they differentiate between pads, discs or both using this tick box?

They don't.
Tick the box for pads.
If discs are replaced, then pads are replaced as well.
Discs are only replaced if they are below the recommended limit, which you need the wheels off to measure. Generally, BMW discs will last two or three sets of pads.

For peace of mind, I just decided to suck it up and have the dealer knock off a few more quid so it was in-line with the figures on MainDealerDiscount. My local BMW indy wanted £170. I got my dealer down from £289 to £235 to then £215, typically I would be happy get this much off anything else, but its just pads!

Brake pads here by textar, they make oem bmw pads mostly

Parts would be about 60 quid -30% so give or take around 40 quid plus say 40-50 quid cash for an indi to do them, Or even better do them yourself if your slightly technical. You could easily save yourself over 100 quid

Easy DIY job, I changed my pads a while back and it's not difficult at all.

Will not have any effect on warranty. They only use the CBS to inform the customer of any servicing requirements. Only thing would be an engine failure where they would look to see if it had been serviced.

Just about to get mind done by the indie in camberley the quote was nearly half of sytner and using bmw parts

Thats a hell of a lot, how an indy can justify that I don't know.

As said 50 quid MAX for OE grade (not from BMW) pads and sensor, and 1 hours labour AT MOST, so 50 quid/ hour at an indy.

That's 100 quid absolute top whack!

You could do all four corners for 150.
