ICOM software

I have an ICOM arriving shortly and declined to purchase the software with the unit. What’s confusing to me is they were trying to sell me software for the laptop and not the operating system. I would think that the brand and model of the laptop shouldn’t matter as much as the operating system??? I have a Lenovo t510 laptop running Windows 10. Any idea where to download the correct software?

As long as you have Win10 you are good for operating platform. The operating minimum hardware for Win10 is more than enough to power ISTA+.

If you're just starting out, easiest way is to go to Bimmergeeks and download their version along with their version of standard tools (NCSExpert, INPA, Dummy, WinKFP). Then install ISTA+ aka Rheingold 4.1x) per their directions. IIRC, when you get into ISTA+ make sure you click on the wrench, then Vehicle Interface and select "Dealer Organisation ICOM/ENET local area network" and ethernet as preferred channel.

There are a bunch of youtube videos that show you how to set it up if you need more confidence. I think BMW Doctor and a few others (though I really dislike BMW Doctor but every once in awhile he has something decent).

If you already have it loaded what are you worried about? I no longer understand the question. Just change the input options and you're set. INPA and ISTA are run in windows environments (ISTA requires at least win7 or a properly set up XP— which I dunno why you would do).

Yes, that's for the same suites you can download for free. Some have customized software that makes it easier to install, some have more updated ones, some have less updated ones. It's just an add-on upsale -- just like that laptop preloaded they were trying to sell you. Convenience means a lot to people and many are willing to pay to have a turn-key setup. Especially when they have one company to call for problems. Think if you bought an Autel instead.

I sold my oldest laptop with WinXP and BMW standard tools for $100 (and its ancient) just because it was proven and someone wanted to have something that worked without thinking. His offer too. Win-win for both of us since it was my second spare.
