Volkswagen Steps Up Tesla Challenge With $25 Billion Battery Buy

VAG is the company to watch in my view. They are firing on most, if not all, cylinders now.

Does anyone think VAG will put Tesla in the dust, global EV market share-wise?

p.s. we might need to retire the saying, “firing on all cylinders”.

They better step up, checked out an iD4 this weekend, pretty lackluster on all fronts. I'm personally more a fan of the Mach-E and Ioniq5 right now, as well as anything Rivian and Lucid are doing.

isn’t it just the base version of ID4 that is out right now? I would wait for the top version/Audi variant of this car.

2WD 1st Edition. $45k, far from base, but doesn't look or feel its price in my opinion.

Also the idea behind removing the rear window controls in replacement with a touch button for the driver is by far one of the stupidest things I've seen in a car. It can't possibly save much money, its useless technology for technology's sake.

In Germany they have two variants with two different battery sizes.

Pretty sure we won't be getting two different batteries, at least not yet. The US base model will be the "iD4 Pro RWD" starting ~$40k and can be optioned up to $50k, and won't be arriving until later this year. Only cars at dealers right now are RWD 1st Edition cars.

I'm sure they will sell, but I wasn't impressed, I think VW could really improve the car in a lot of areas, especially after sitting in an equivalent priced Mach-E.
