Navigation by Name

Need help from other Nav users.
I have an '07 335i with Nav.
Many times I know destination name and approx miles, but not address or specific Nav category. Is there a way one can enter business or restaurant name to find new destination candidates?
I have used Garmin in the past with this feature and found very useful.
So looking for help to see if it is possible with BMW Nav.

Welcome!

If you have a March '07 or later built car you can do POI (point of interest) searches. Or, as I understand it, if you have the latest update for the software...

Yep, I have a Sep '05 built car and now with the latest software update, 25.01.01, I can do POI searches by name....finally!!

how can i find the year my car was built and what ver nav i have stock from the dealer?

theres a sticker in the door jamb that will have the production date of the car... will look something like 03/07 etc...

I have a march production 335 and I just use the information menu when i am looking for restaurants and such.. its something like information-> dining and entertainment-> restaurants-> then the name and distance you want to search... you dont even have to type in the full name of the place.. just the first few characters will do.

mine is like that....

information on location
information on a new location>dining and entertainment>restaraunts>all restaraunts...

do i have the latest nav software?

my car says 02/07 on the door sticker.

however, once im in the navigation menu, it doesn't look like i can type in a specific bar or restaurant (looks like i was a month early)...this was very much a PITA this past weekend.
