Rims slammed into the curb :(
I was making a left turn and I didn't see the curb, my rim slammed into the side. Now, I have the famous "curb rash" on my rims. My car is a lease. Now, is there anything else that I should be worried about? I was going about 20 mph. Both front and rear have the rash. Steering feels solid and I don't get any shaking at high speeds. Pics will come tomorrow.
1. Anything I should be worried about? 2.My lease ends in about 2 years, when I return the vehicle, will they make me pay for it? Should I be worried? 3. I hate run flats. |

They will make you pay of course. If you rent a car out to someone and the car came back with rash would you not ask him to pay? They run a business not a charity :-)

I've heard of cases where the car drives straight and doesn't have any shakes but the steering wheel is slightly off center due to parts getting bent. I'd personally play it safe and get the suspension looked at (but I'm paranoia)
Also, not really sure what run flat tires have to do with this... |

looks like you just bought yourself two round paperweights. how long do you have left on your lease? I wouldn't buy replacements now, I would wait 'til I was closer to returning the vehicle because you night hit another curb. you might get a better deal from one of the forum vendors (getbmwparts.com or bavauto.com) closer to lease end than paying when you turn in the vehicle.

The only point I can think about RFTs in this context is that they are less likely to be trashed when you hit a curb. Non-RFT very low profiles are very easy to trash. The tyre fitters I use say they rarely come across fully worn very low profiles and mostly they have to be replaced early as they have bulges in the sidewall.

Yeah I should have mentioned that. My rim was perfectly fine with the exception of scratches. I wouldn't trust anyone to un-bend a rim.

lol, definitely not. And if anyone claims they can unbend rims, run away from them.
Hotice: if you can tolerate having the curb rashes on your wheels, might as well wait until you're near the end of your lease term to have them re-finished. Not jinxing you, but you may very well get more rashes later on. Off-topic but somewhat related, I saw a Jeep TJ the other day stranded in the middle of a road. Its front left wheel fell off, I'm guessing he changed his own tires and didn't tighten the nuts enough.

I didn't know you could re-finish. Thanks guys! I'll wait till the end of my lease.
Pics are coming. Run flats have nothing to do with this thread. I just like stating the fact that, I hate run flats. |

On the other hand, why not have them repaired now so they look nice while you're driving the car, and not constantly be reminded of what happened? I had one done for $150 including remount and balance of the tire.

if you feel up to it, you can even refinish the rims yourself. There's a DIY posted by Paul330D

As far as fixing curb rash, that's no big deal. I've had ones for my 911 and FX done by wheel america in phila. Here's a before and after shot.

Supposedly, two of the best wheel refinishing places in the Mid-Atlantic are there in your home state of Maryland -- Ye Olde Wheel & Welding and Wheelworx. I don't have their contact info handy, but you can Google for them. I think they charge $$$$ per wheel, though, and really only should be used for SERIOUS damage.
When I had curb rash on two wheels, I looked into them, but I eventually decided to DIY. My repaired rims look essentially perfect. I can feel the difference because I didn't lay down the clear coat as well as factory, but they look great. If I could do it over again, I wouldn't bother with the DIY (takes too long, too much effort) and instead would use one of the mobile repair guys.
