Unhappy What do I do now? - bumper mess

Besides cry? AWD did absolutely nothing at 15mph around a corner (if anything, I made it around the corner then all of a sudden spun out 240 degrees)

First time I've ever damaged any car. I don't know how they fix these things or costs?

Appreciated

I knew that was going to be the first post!

I don't know what the price difference on these things are for repair vs. new bumper + painting + re fitment of whatever else?

:P

honestly something like that... where it's plastic, and probably has deep gashes... its not going to look as pretty even though it's been fixed (obviously) and to me will always be on my mind that THAT portion of my car is

and to answer your question about price?.. i'm not so sure myself but for peace of mind and a new look, i'd go with a new bumper if it is within budget.

Time to sign up for driving lessons A little levity for a tense situation, at least the fog light is okay.

You know that AWD only gets you moving - it doesn't help you turn, right?

All of the brown lines in that shot are just dirt, it wipes off.

The only real bad spot is the edge when it turns inward, the paint is gashed (well, a good way to describe it is like looking at the stump of a tree with the lines and feels like its cracking)

I like that idea. Any recommendations? I've only bought a lip trunk spoiler from jbspeed before

what about you tell us what is your budget ?

4 Options that I can think of

1 - Leave it the way it is , clean it off. The damage is in a place where it is not too visible
2 - Take it to a body shop and see if the can fix that part , there may be able to bent the bumper back to its normal place. You can choose to have the whole bumper repainted or if it does not look that bad you could just use touch up paint to cover up, again this depends on how much you want to spend.

3 - Try to fix the bumper your self , do the best to get it straigh, get a lip or splitter and try to make it fit.

4 - Get the bumper replace and repainted

Price wise

option 1 - nothing
option 2 - 150 to get the bumper back to its original state. 300 to have the bumper repaint , they may do it for 500 all together
option 3 - 200 for the splitters , they come painted already
opton 4 - I would guess around 750 $

The damage is not really big so if you are thinking of changing the whole bumper , it may be worth a try trying to fix it yourself or ask the body shop if they can do it for you.

Thank you. I really like the idea of the splitter or lip spoiler. I've been looking at them - and they both seem to go over exactly where the damage is -anyone have any favorites?

I'm thinking have a body shop get the bumper back to original state, not having it repainted, but have it covered with one of the two? You think it will cover my mistake properly?

You need to SLOW DOWN with your driving. Go get a new bumper.

Sorry man. That sucks. My wife's car (SLK) got damage like that on one of those concrete stop things in a parking lot. There are ways to fix it, but the only way to make it look right is a new bumper and since our insurance deductible was $500 I decided to just pay out of pocket. Total bill was around $1200 for bumper plus paint.

Get some decent tires so your awd can do its job in the snow, when my car starts to push in turns i just tap the gas and the front pulls itself out and don't push, but i have 4 winter tires.

You don't think a lip will work?

I am next winter - getting summer tires this summer - I just need to decide if I want to get 2nd set of wheels or not (sucks, because I can't seem to find a square set anywhere for xdrive).

I thought the same thing after -when I faced forward down the street, then I adjusted to get out of middle to the right side of the residential street and the tail just went completely out in a way I've never experienced before - I just went for the brake and quickly rotating the steering wheel back and forth

No, there was a tiny tree to my right, or I would have (you mean turn with the spin?). Feared counter steering centering me into the tree. I hit it and the curb at a brisk foot walking speed. Snows melted here, but sections of the back roads were a solid sheet of ice.

I'm awfully confused though - some are saying new bumper and some just get a lip spoiler?

Don't sweat it. These things happen. Drive long enough and you, in all likelihood, will have a mishap. That said, it looks damn minor. When the snow melts and the body shops catch up get a few estimates. My local BMW dealer (Bob Smith in Calabasas CA) does minor repairs. For a bumper repair it is about $300.

it really depends on how picky you are . To make it look 100% right you may want to look into buying a new bumper and have it repainted but it also means you are going to pay a lot more for it. Some people are also picky about the paint job so they take their cars to high quality paint shops , but they also pay big money for it

Putting a lip or splitter is probably the cheapest way to do it , and it may look right for most people , again the damage is still going to be there if you really look for it, I bet most people would not even noticed it .

I would even say for most people the damage you have now is not even worth getting it fix .

So at the end of the day it really comes down to you, and how much money you want to spend

That's nothing in the grand scheme of things. If it wasn't for the damaged mesh, I'd think an aero lip would cover that up.

no way an aero lip would fit properly over that without being repaired 1st.

Aero lip is not all that great to start with,

http://www.**********s.com/E92-E93-M...ont-Bumper.htm

go with that $450 and has shaved reflectors, includes fog lights and all mesh.

Will cost you about 200 to paint it, but you will love the front of your car after this bumper I promise ya
