DLS vs Morel vs Focal vs BMW individual

Hello,

I am upgrading the sound system on my bmw e90, and can't decide between these spekers:
  • Focal 100 krs
  • Morel Virtus 402
  • DLS reference R4
  • DLS UP4 bmw
  • BMW individual speakers

I already have a JL HD 600/4 amp and a pair of sws8, so I want something with decent midbass.

Thank you!

It is wishful thinking to expect any appreciable level of midbass from 4" mids. You have already closed that door by installing the Earthquakes.

From what I have heard though you have the best chance of getting at least *some* midbass out of the Morels.

I know that I closed the door on midbass, that's why I am looking for something with good midbass, for a 4-incher.

I also heard about the Morels, but about the hybrids, not the Virtus. The Hybrids are too expensive.

If I were you I'd be looking for used Hybrids!

Since these are not widely available.

Since these are not widely available, for the most part anybody
but a dealer has likely heard them all. Based on what the guys that
sell them tell me I would vote for the Morels no matter which model.

It may be my ears, but I found DLS R4 better than morel Hybrid.
Again, it may be me, and I'd prefer them over morel hybrid any day!

So what you're saying is that there will be a "hole" in the frequency range between the drop-off of the 4" and the top end of the Earthquakes? The Earthquakes just don't go high enough, and 4" don't go low-enough to provide mid-bass?

I vaguely remember my high-school days where some of my friends would just have this big sonic gap between anything musical, and big booming bass. It sounded terrible and, just, no . . . .

Currently, I am running eartquakes low passed at 200hz.
I have tried Jehnerts and morels under seats. Nothing beats earthquakes IMHO.
They start rolling off at 160hz but nothing significant.
If you high pass your speakers at 150hz, I do not see that you will have issue.
We human are unique. Here in Europe people run to buy earthquakes as they get sold at $600.
Whereas in states, people want to buy european products as they work out expensive.
But expensive is not always the best option.

sorry to resurrect an old thread, but any more input?

I'm looking between Focal 100KRS and DLS Ultimate UP4 - has anyone heard both?

There is also a kit from Focal for our cars called the IFBMW-S - similar price point

If someone has already "closed the door" on mid-bass by using earthquakes under the seats, I wonder if they can compromise and replace one earthquake with a single mid-bass underseat woofer (Jenhert, etc.).
Of course each underseat woofer would be powered by a different amp channel (and crossed over accordingly), but maybe this would give the best of both worlds without resorting to a trunk enclosure.

Thoughts?

That would not work well because you would only have half of the output and you would hear the midbass coming from only one side.

Agreed, but key word would be "compromise", probably better than nothing, IF a trunk sub is out of question.

Output might not be an issue depending on amps being used.

http://www.jehnert.de/produkte-doorb...tem?lang=en_us

you can't have mid bass unless you do it properly.

Money I think do the math.

Money I think do the math.
Yeah those look cool but they only go in the M3 and I thought they were
like 1k per side minus the speakers and they don't go in the e90.
What did yours cost and how many speakers of what size are in each side.

I find it odd they only give a 6.5" under seat woofer to replace the 8" that comes standard.

I'm sure it still sounds great though. Costly.

They're made for all of our cars, not just the M3. Why don't you look at their site? It's 3-6 1/2" drivers in the door and one under the seat for a total of 8 mid bass drivers. I don't remember what I paid. It's worth the money if you want proper mid bass. Can't get proper mid bass out of a 4" in the door and an 8" under the seat.
