Stolen Laptop: Any help is appreciated
My friend has his MacBook stolen out of his car last night in West Hills, CA
the MacBook's serial number is 4H63121VWBW It's a Black, 2.4 GHZ 2GB Ram upgraded to Snow Leopard Trackpad has noticeable oily streaks I know this is a long shot and all, but I just thought I could put it out there. If someone sees sometime on craigslist or anything, please do PM me. Thanks. |

We were searching on CL all day
and we found one that matched everything PERFECTLY (same specs, same color, listed within the time when he left the car alone and when he found out it was gone etc) But when we asked to meet up... the guy never showed... he reported it to the police and apple if the guy ever tries to get any service done at apple he's screwed

In the future:
Orbicule's Undercover (http://www.orbicule.com/undercover/) or Absolute's LoJack (http://www.lojackforlaptops.com/)?

Sorry to hear. The only way to prevent laptop theft is to not leave it unattended.
Those theft recovery programs are easy to bypass...just reformat the drive or replace the drive and that software is gone. No more way to track it. Of course, if your thief doesn't know much about computers, then there is a chance it might actually work.
