The low hum vibration while parked is motor mounts. Especially if they are hydraulic (don't know if they are on this car), but I had a Porsche Cayenne that drove me crazy with the low frequency reverberations while stopped at a light. Turned out that the liquid (silicone) inside the mount had hardened and the mounts had compressed almost one inch. I had the mounts changed and it was like driving a brand new car!

Sorry guys, had to reschedule appt. It has continued to make the noise a couple times a week. I had an appt to get this looked at along with the battery cable recall. Since the recall parts are on backorder, they postponed me to an unknown future date. Thats ok though because i have $10k worth of hail damage as of last week that i have to get repaired anyway.......

Motor mounts are very easy, however our mounts are not hydraulic. I had the bolt on the top of my passenger side mount actually separate from the rubber and drove on it for quite awhile until I happened to notice it while installing my headers.

MIne does the same metalic clank noise 1-2 seconds after start up. Is coming from under the car I think is the flyheel. I also have some smal vibrations on the clutch pedal.
e92 325i 61k km.
dindn't bother to mutch with it I don"t plan to spend money on this car. I will see what breaks down and then fix it.

Trans Click/Clunk

Hey all,

My '07 328i did the exact same thing so I put it up on a lift and the noise was coming from the transmission pan. I changed the trans oil and filter so I could look for debris or anything else and found the oil to be clean, and no debris. Then while enduring the ridiculous refill procedure, the click continued after the start up with a rate of about once every 5 seconds. The click was coming from the trans again and when I started to listen with a stethoscope and touching various parts, the trans oil outgoing cooling line was pulsing every time it clicked. It was so obnoxious, I drained the oil and pulled the pan off to have another look. Now I have the GM tranny in this car and have serviced hundred of GM Hydromatics/Allisons and have never had a customer complain of this noise. I can only assume is it a programing issue related to when the oil is routed to the cooler, like a solenoid or thermostatic vavle.

Anyways, after 5 start cycles and about 200+ miles it stopped and hasn't done it since. The car had 75k miles on it at the time, now has 90k, still no click.

I'm experiencing these exact sounds as well with my 2009 E92 328i (53,xxx km).

This Sunday I'm having a mechanic friend look at it, I'll post an update once we reach a diagnosis.

Apart from the sound, the car runs beautifully.

I now have this exact thing happening at about 63K miles. But I did just have an LSD put in so I'm wondering if the drive shaft or Guibo interfaces are all fastened adequately.

Anybody have this and get it resolved.

Yes I believe it. I was going to post yesterday I slid my phone under the diff/half shaft interface and started car. You could see a slide movement and the click sounds right with it. I also asked Harold at HPA and he mentioned the something similar to the fix you mentioned. I'll definitely look into this....

Same issue for me only on cold start. Loud metallic noise that lasts a second or two. Car runs great however.

Have the valvetronic motor limit stops relearned.

Bad reading from this shaft can cause long or no start conditions. The click you hear may be the eccentric shaft hitting something as it does it's self check after switching ignition

It doesn't look like the OP every got this sorted out or posted anything new. But having watched this again, it almost makes me think that it could be one of two other possible things causing this noise (shouldn't be audible though) - that is the DISA units and the throttle body, which as far as I know, close on cold start to assist in the warm up cycle. Not sure about what sort of noise the throttle body can make if it becomes noisy when closing, but the sound of the DISA units actuating is pretty similar. Just seems like they would have to be quite a bit noisier than usual to be heard with the engine just started. But I suppose it might be possible.

I took a vid of the DISA units on my 330i being actuated with INPA with engine off, so obviously they are easy to hear, and in some cases you can hear that similar sort of "clunk" noise, but not loud enough to cause an echo. And when I thought mine were "noisy", a friend came over with his virtually identical 330i and they were much noisier on his car!

Just a thought...
