courtesy lights handle question

I have a E91 and when i look under the handle i can see a square with a pcb and two diodes. But i dont get any light from the square. Do cards without the courtesy lights allso have space for them in the handle, or are they broken?

Interior lighting turns on when i unlock the car.

EDIT: Epic fail, they come on, i just didnt notice in the bright sun...
