Increasing low end tq, when to shift in m mode
As far as shifting it's 6600 rpm I believe but correct me if I'm wrong.
We need to get creative for some more low end tq. So far the only thing I can think of is a modified box and air scoops.. Some kind of ram air mod.... Any ideas?

FORCED INDUCTION YO! WE NEED A SUPERCHARGER!... Give me enough money and I could absolutely make it happen. I've been thinking about the reason AA gave for not being able to make it happen. They said something about valvetronic system lacking the vacuum for a BOV i think? This could be solved electromechanically with a pressure sensor and a solenoid actuator. It might take a bit of engineering, but it could happen.... Or velocity stacks w/ valvetronic for more torque would be pretty dope.. also high compression pistons or a stroker kit...
All of those things i said were completely unrealistic and will probably never happen.

You know when you know the answer yet you ask anyway hoping for another answer... this was that thread.

I think a modified air box would help, the more airflow you can get in the intake the better. Maybe a charcoal delete, a filter with better airflow. For na cars theres not much you can do besides installing a supercharger.

or bigger rear diff ratios.. that would do it, if you dont care too much about highway mileage

the only mod that I noticed that increased low-end torque was the 3 stage manifold. I picked up over 20+ ft lbs at like 2000 rpm with a tune.
but other than that, there really isn't much you can do. experimenting with the timing map with an OFT may help a bit, but nothing very significant. |

Well a tune would help as well. In my opinion the 328i has a good amount of power, so a tune, better airflow air filter and maybe a bmw pe would help you a lot!

Yea I have the 3 stage, AA tune, PE exhaust and Ive done my due diligence researching on the board. I'm okay with the ~270 hp I have at the crank, I just wish the TQ would be a little more.. I was really watching my 1/4 run on the g tac to see where the power loss came into play and as soon as I hit second, that's what kills the run. ( i dont track this was purely an experiment). However if I could squeeze a little more low end tq out of my car somehow, I think this would help out. I knew the answer, I just wanted to get a spirited discussion and maybe a new idea out of it.

Shift at redline always. You'll land back at 5000rpm and be making more average power than if you shifted earlier.
As far low end torque goes, buy my Dinan intake and ask AA if they have recently revised their tune. Currently, I never shift past 3K in daily driving, I have plenty of low end torque. Also, you should look into headers... |

If you have a 6MT, you can change the rear diff to a 3.64 or 3.73 from the automatic cars.
The 6MT came with a 3.23 rear end, so a 3.64 will really wake the car up. The engine won't make more actual torque, but the shorter rear end gear multiplies it more, and you will feel a difference. |

HP is more valuable than torque - a different differential can mechanically multiply torque, so dont worry about More low end. Also, the more low end power you're tuned for (in cars with non adjustable cams and intake manifolds)it comes at a trade off of high end hp.
HP is king, ask the S2000. |

Axiom is right. Idk where this widespread torque myth came from, but I assume it has something to do with muscle car people. Torque is helpful at low rpm i suppose if you cant launch well, but power is what you want for acceleration.. assuming your car's gearing isnt total crap... just go back to your highschool physics textbook if you need an explanation

From what I understand, this "adds" more power at low speeds but you would be sacrificing top speed. (I say "adds" in quotes because it really does nothing to the output power of the engine.) Not really a bad thing I guess considering no one spends their time going 1XX + MPH on the streets anyway.

All great idea, I do inf act have an automatic. I guess the the next mod I would be looking for is headers. I would get SS headers, but they don't have cats, and in NY thats something you need If any of you guys know of any good header setups that do not emit a CEL light, I'm all ears. I know a new tune would make the o2 sensors "ready" but NY still does a visual inspection
EDIT- 200 cell cats on the primaries, race pipes on the secondaries w/ a flange so I can put them in for inspection sounds gravy??? that may net 20 hp ha
