MY bodyshop cut the bumper. Looked pretty straight forward.
The outer sides of the diffuser runs with the stock cutout on the bumper, so you just cut out on the inner sides. The diffuser hides the work on the bumper. |

Were you able to or are you going to be able to keep the two lower bumper supports in place? Cause it looks close based on the cut needed. Or do you remove them with extra structural the diffuser gives? Send some pics if you can. I think the tip issue is going to involve getting a pair that is close and having a muffler shop do the final mods and fitment. I can't wait to get mine and put it together. I was going to install the diffuser and just run with the singles till I get the quad tips but I couldn't hang with the look, so I am waiting.

Here is the material I cut from the bumper.... This is also necessary if you don't wont the bumper showing through the lower horizontal diffuser vent. The lower bumper mounts or brackets have to be bent in toward the middle of the car to clear the Quad pipes & reach the new position of the Diffuser. Here circled in Red is the original position of the lower bumper mounting brackets before I bent them inward. Also pictured with the 4" tailpipes before Quad Tip install. A Dremel Tool works Great for making these cuts quick work. I used their new 1 & 1/2" "EZ-LOCK" Plastic cutting wheel.

Quad Tips Installed
The installer at the Muffler shop did a Great job. Here's some pics I'll post some install pics latter(it's getting late). I just had the diffuser taped on w/ double stick tape(for photos only) until I get some Betalink, so it's not sitting as flush as it will when it's permanently mounted. w/out Diffuser to show how the bumper was cut...

looking yummy!
As you guys know, I prefer the 335s (save the quads for the M car) with big 3.5 or 4 inch round dualies...but this one one heck of an execution of a very nice mod! Awesome work, great post, very very informative! |

Rugs it looks great, nice job. Thanks for sharing your project with some excellent photos, now I can proceed with that extra bit of confidence. I just need my quad tips now. Cyba does an excellent job with the CF.

He did this for Two reasons: 1) So the tips would fit Over the stock pipes coming from the muffler because they were the Same Diameter. 2) For length adjustment. Another point of interest is how he aligned the pipes coming out of the Mufflers. Pic below: is a crude illustration of how he had to cut the pipes just after the mufflers, then pulling them inboard and rewelding to align them for the quads. Drivers side: He was able to retain the exhaust valve. He cut 7/8's of the way through the pipe(circled in Red), bent it in toward the center of the car so the quad tip would line up. Then filled in the gap with the welding torch (pic is with the old tip still on just before he cut it off). Close-up of the cut just after the muffler(drivers side)... After the cut was filled in with a weld. This is the same pipe & weld from the other side. You can see here (circled in Red) where (the pipe is entering the muffler) he left just enough material on the pipe to be able to bend it into place without cutting the pipe entirely off. He finished it off by spraying a light coat of 500 degree Silver paint to keep the welds from rusting...

Looks nice. Do you have any pictures that arent taken directly from behind the car? Maybe slightly off to the side and zoomed out some? I dont know if Im feeling the peep hole or not.
Also, did he fill that gap all with weld? This is a dumb question, but something I've always wondered. Ive never sat there and watched a muffler shop weld up the pipes. How in the hell do the weld up OVER the tops of the pipe? It doesnt appear that there is any room to get up in there. I can MIG all day long but have never done an exhaust. Do I need a special gun with an angled tip or something? |

Rugs, great write up, great photos, etc. This is a semi-DIY since you engineered it and figured it out yourself. Quads look great!
