Possible but expensive. You would need adaptive xenon headlight assemblies, headlamp wash & level sensors (if you're converting from halogen), steering angle sensor, RVM with HBA sensor and coding.
Such an expensive retrofit it's unlikely to be worthwhile. Adaptive lighting is so good it should be standard in the first place.

Yeah but most people going for xenons + adaptives went for the full visibility pack (which includes HBA) because it worked out cheaper that way.

Dont do it ! Ive got adaptives - not worth the extra cost / hassle as benefit dubious and not reliable.
Been to dealership several times with odd headlight movements but a fault cannot be found. Generally RH headlight lags behind the LH headlight. eg On roundabouts the LH headlight will cross the beam of the RH light before the RH one moves to shine further right - can feel really weird at times. On fast S bends with first bend to the right , the beams will still be shining right when im turning into the LH bend as they cant keep up with the car. Id see more if the lights simply pointed straight ahead all the time. It could be that my car is just particularly carp in this respect but i cant help feeling that they are way over-engineered when all we need are reliable lights pointing ahead.

But remember if you put your light switch to 'ON' instead of 'AUTO' then all the adaptive features are disabled and you have 'normal' fixed lights. You have to do this when setting / checking the beam levels, else it goes into 'urban mode' with the wide RHS light and confuses the hell out of the MOT man! (I had to tell the local MOT place about this as they called BMW - Knights in Stoke - and some muppet told them "only BMW can do the MOT as you need to plug the car in to the computer to do the beam check" WTF?) I put it to ON when pressing on down bendy roads at night else the swinging beams are really off putting, makes you thinkg the back and is siding round! sorry to hijack the thread, but i'm a new member here and i can't create new threads...
my car have the "High Beam Assist" showing in the iDrive and are ACTIVATED, I have the Xenons, but doesn't seem to have Adaptive Headlights, is this possible? Although when I'm in a dark lane, the High Beam doesn't seem to automatically come on either, is it faulty? I have the light switch at the "AUTO" already... |

http://www.rubmw.ru/vincode/eng/ You can have HBA as a stand alone extra. With HBA enabled in iDrive, and light switch in Auto, you should get a small icon in the centre display on your dashboard to indicate that HBA is active. Using the dip/main beam stalk will deactivate the HBA until you use the stalk again. Mike |

Hi Mike, thanks for the quick reply, the website shows that I have the light package as well as the comfort package, but I'm not sure if that is right, as I don't have comfort access which supposed to come with comfort package right?
also when I have the light on highbeam, the only symbol I see in the middle of dash is the normal "blue" high beam symbol, so what am I doing wrong? how to make it active? |

hey guys.. speaking of adaptive headlight in the idrive menu.. i recently updated my software for he idrive and all modules of the car.. and suddenly a new option appeared in the idrive menu for the lights.. it says:
ADAPTIVE HEADLIGHTS: 1)SPORT 2)COMFORT 3)OFF well obviously the 3 one turns it off.. but whats the actually difference between the first 2? is it the speed of movement of the headlight or is it actuvated on in sport/DS mode? or is it something else? and another simple simple question.. how can i know if my software installed is actually the latest one? i drive e90 2006 330i euro spec. thx for your replies in advance

I like how you just flat out say not true, with complete disregard for my prior comment that I own a e92 with xenon and they DO NOT have washers. Yes washers are mandated by law in the EU for xenon but that's not true for everywhere (I'm in canada). It's important for me to call it out because if someone is going to do the retrofit, and it's not required by law where they live, having misinformation will cost them more. I'll update my original post to be more clear.

Apologies, I didn't know you were not from the UK. I do find it odd that in some countries it's law and others not. Surely if they are there for safety it should on every car.

I retrofitted xenons to my E91 but never retrofitted the headlight washers. I did install the levelling sensors though. Never failed an MOT on the missing washers!
