I remember this coming up as a problem not long ago, but im buggered if i can find it. Its the HDD Prof Sat Nav and I cant for the life of me get the 'Night Mode' to enable. I've been through the settings and it the night mode option is ticked. When i first had the car a little while back Night mode worked. Since then, the car has been into the dealer to have the engine and gearbox out for Timing chain repair. Car is under the 3yr warranty till end of December. Night mode is doing something though as you will see with the image below... the 3D perspective junction view in the split screen is showing the night mode. I know it's a little trivial maybe but it's useful to have the dark less illuminating nav view at night.

Am i doing something wrong here? If i have to take the car in, then this will be the 5th time in under 3 months.

If you've got the option ticked then I don't know what else you can do...

It's because you've got the traffic display option ticked.

Slightly off topic but would I be able to get those map views on my prof nav pre lci e91 with a software update from bmw?

You only get the lane display and dynamic traffic routing with the HDD version.

Right cheers for that, will try unticking traffic display... however that seems like a programming error if you cant have both!

I've found when you have window on screen ready to tick the box, hold down one of your shortcut buttons to save the shortcut, hey presto, no more trawling though the menus each time u want to change day/night mode
Set mine to button three

Think i saw a post where you mentioned this before? Not an option on th E9X range unfortunately

Is the night light level setable somewhere?
Maybe if its set at the same level as day level, it will not appear to change?

Instead of map view, set to 3D Perspective. Instead of clouds and blue sky, on night mode you get stars and the land is black.

Are people finding this on later E9X's as mine is a 2008 LCi?

My 2009 car is the same re night mode.

I never use 'traffic' mode, can't for the life of me figure out what its supposed to show you, Traffic mode doesn't function in perspective view either, even if ticked.

Agree, set a shortcut button for night mode, just one press for day/night then!

Auto day/ night is never right anyway even if we had it on E9x, my Tom Tom has it and its crap, goes to 'day' when its still dark and then to 'night' when its still light.

It's kind of right on the F10 but sometimes goes into night mode early but then athe auto-lights come on during the day half the time too.

I'll try out the traffic mode and see if that's fixed / changed; I've never used it.

On my car it shows a green band beside main roads if they are clear of traffic. This changes to orange and then red if there is any congestion. I really like it.

That is one thing I do love about the Merc, it uses light sensors, one in the display and one on the windscreen, so even in a rain storm the nav will go into 'dark' mode, and as it gets darker the display dims accordingly.

However, I am sure that my old mans 530d GT was pretty good the other day, as it got darker the nav switched. But maybe it was to do with auto lights?
I never really thought about it, was just more impressed that night mode worked now.

It is the same with aftermarket units too, none have a light sensor these days, they are all made on the cheap.

My traffic mode works fine on both night mode and perspective view. Very good and quick it is to. The other day I saw an accident happen on the other side of the road and within a minute the map was showing delays.

It's a shame the night mode isn't available as a voice command. How cool to be able to say to the car "night time" "day time" just like the Walk on the Wild Side bird

Perhaps. Works OK on my F10 though.
