M sport steering wheel

Hi, ive just bought an e90 M-sport wheel and air bag. Ive got a freind who works for BMW who is going to fit the parts but before i take them down to him i need to make sure i have everything for the job.
Im not sure wether somethings missing??
I have the wheel, airbag and airbag cover!
How does the actual airbag secure to the wheel? Is there a part i need to buy for this ?

All advice welcome!
Cheers

Hi Jimmy,

The airbag should simply clip in once the wheel is mounted. There are two spring mounts on the inside of the wheel itself. The whole process of changing the wheel should take no longer than 30 mins. You'll need to disconnect the battery and leave the capacitors in the airbag to discharge for about 10 mins. wouldn't want it going off accidentally.

I re-used the airbag in my 335i SE when I had the M3 steering wheel fitted by a local BMW Indy. But then I didn't replace the centre bit of the wheel with the chrome edges, just the actual wheel itself; everything else was put back as it was and the airbag re-set.

I still have another brand new, boxed M3 wheel in my garage too! My wife doesn't want it on her E91.

Be careful that you have the airbag mounting bracket. Depending on what wheel you started with and what you are going to you may need a new one and (apparently) BMW only sell them with the airbag. I looked at doing this swap but it seemed it was going to be pricey.

There are some good threads on it in the mods forum.

I started off with the standard SE multifunction wheel.

Here's the Thread I posted about my upgrade - I didn't have to buy anything else to do this...no brackets, airbag etc...

The e90 SE steering wheel and airbag is a totally different shape to the M-sport so i cant use my original airbag or mounting kit.

Ive had a look on both if those threads.
The part missing on my new M-sport wheel which i need is the silver plate which is bolted to the wheel which the airbag clips onto!
The SE and the m-sport wheel/airbag are as you all know are different shapes, but does anyone know if the same shape silver plate is used on the two style steering wheels?

Why don't you pop your wheel off and have a look?

It only takes 5 minutes.

Im pretty sure (based off what Ive read on the site) that sport and non sport have a completely different airbag and mount
