GVA: lowered in the winter
Hi there,
didn't quite find any thing regarding this, mostly just normal winter driving threads... so my question: What are your experiences with winter driving in a lowered car on non-xi's? i know coilovers you could always raise it to stock heights or that ballpark range so more emphasis with lowering springs, since i'm thinkin about purchasing some h&r sports. Thanks! |

I m not trying to let you down, but lowered E90/E92 without Xi is almost not drivable in snow...because i had too much this kind of experiences!!

you should be fine..i live in toronto...am lowered with H&R sports.....i had no major problems...and we get twice the amount of snow that you do....during heavy snow falls, i find that its my exhaust that is getting the worst of the damage done before the streets get ploughed....get yourself a set of snow tires is a must...

the advantage of Vancouver is that it doesn't snow much, and usually is just wet snow/ or very little..
i have sport suspension and had trouble with driving in the deep snow last year with my all seasons.. I think u can manage fine if your drive is outside of small streets where is not plowed... but you'll be finding yourself pushing and digging snow on the ground if you try to drive it in deep snow. RWD + snow = fail.

dont lower your car if you plan on driving in heavy snow... even if you have an xi, you'd have traction but you'll end up being a snow plough for the city. which means your front end will be scrapping the streets and clearing the snow, ice and everything else for other people behind you...
if you have seen the size of some of the ice blocks left over on the street after a bad snow storm, you wont want that to get anywhere near your front end. its going to crack the bottom part of your bumper for sure.

I drive pretty low all year around with or without snow. With winters tires I haven't had any issues too much. I just have to watch out for the big chunks of ice.

im slammed and dont have any issues driving with snow tires...regardless of what everyone says about vancouver not getting much snow, get snow tires. snow tires are beneficial regardless of snow, because the compound helps with traction in cold temperatures.

With snow tires you would be fine, the front of the car just plows. Doesn't bother me.

My car must be special or something. I probably only had to leave the car home during snowfalls of 20cm's or more. I drove like this last winter, and about to do it again |
