I don't think disabling the OBD's power supply would even fix it via locking/unlocking the car as the 12v power feed is only for powering the scanner that plugs in to read faults/software AFAIK. So powering their scanner via other means would be easy enough to work around.

Just to let you guys knows, i spent an hour on the phone with bmw uk yesterday (transferred to a manager after 20 mins) which ended in them indirectly admitting they have a problem with their cars but refuse to help, told me this is what insurance is for and it is a criminal act then offered a new software update that i am liable to pay for! i told him i will be taking this matter further, which i plan to and will be seeking legal advice
i wonder if anybody has filed a case against them in court yet? sure there are very strong grounds here |

It is available for X5/6 only. Unless BMW has something and they are hiding it.

Right, Just came off the phone with a lovely lady at "Motor Codes" who apparently monitor the whole motor industry. I spoke with her regarding my car being stolen, method and whatnot, and was gob smacked to find out i was the first person to bring this to their attention!
she said if loads of people call and report it then they will be obliged to get onto bmw's case to do something about it! so get ringing guys! 0800 692 0825 http://www.motorcodes.co.uk/garage/t...-code-faq.html in regards to legal action she said unless i bought the car from bmw direct i will find it tricky suing for compensation from them direct, however i may have a case against the person i bought it from and kindly gave me the number of consumer advice line: 08454040506 |

"Motor Codes" who apparently monitor the whole motor industry. Really,I can't believe that they've missed out on such a big story within the motor industry, have they been on extended leave for the last yr? "in regards to legal action she said unless i bought the car from bmw direct i will find it tricky suing for compensation from them direct, however i may have a case against the person i bought it from" On what grounds could you possibly seek compensation from anyone,BMW certainly don't acknowledge any fault, why would A.N.Other be responsible for a fault that allegedly does not exist. Sorry Don,I'm not having a dig at you,but I suspect Motor Codes have as many teeth as a tortoise, and the lady you spoke to knows very little about the law,and how it works.

I'm sure you're right about the first; the second I'm not so sure. If you sued under the guise of "fit for purpose" or "mercheantable quality" under the SoGA then your claim would be against whoever you purchased it from and not against the manufacturer.

i emailed them....but no luck...
Good Afternoon. Many thanks for contacting Motor Codes with your query. The aim of The Motor Industry Conciliation Service is to resolve disputes that arise under the terms and conditions of the manufacturer’s warranty and the manufacturer’s obligations set out in the New Car Code of Practice. BMW do subscribe to Motor Codes of Practice for the New Car Code of Practice as stated above. This means that should the manufacturer fail to meet the terms and conditions that are set within the Warranty Policy then potentially we would be able to assist on resolving the dispute that arises from this. From your email, I note that there is not a present dispute. In regards to your query, unfortunately, this is not something that Motor Codes would look into. If you feel that there is a design issue within BMW this is classed as a design issue and is a legal matter that is not within our remit. I would advise you to raise your query with BMW and/or VOSA on 0300 123 9000 to see if they can assist in any way with this matter. All the best, Kind Regards, Stacey Williams Motor Codes Officer Motor Codes Limited Tel: +44(0)800 692 0825 Web: www.motorcodes.co.uk Twitter: www.twitter.com/chrismasonmcl |

Private seller = 'Caveat emptor' springs to mind I could be wrong, but a successful claim on this issue (theft by OBD/key cloning) is as likely as a rocking horse shitting in the nursery.

Just been to the dealer and bought a blank port from the parts desk.
Dealer: "that could be the best £5.95 you've spent on your car" Me: "so you know what's on TV tonight then" Dealer: "Yeah, we'll all be watching it later" Me: "So finally something will be done about it" Dealer: "I doubt it, there's not much point, as the thieves will come up with something else as soon as we fix it" Me: "Oh, ok then, bye" |
