Why do people have to be this stupid?

Woke up to find my passenger side window smashed. Glovebox and arm rest open, but nothing taken. Probably because I don't keep anything in my car other than a flash drive that has a bunch of music, cheap sunglasses, and papers.

Brothers window on his A4 was also smashed and the officer said that 4 other cars were hit too over night.

It's especially ridiculous because the addition I live in is known as "one of the nicest in the city" whatever that means so parking in the driveway never left me worried about my car.

Not sure about the US but if this happens in the UK you should get a new key coded ASAP. I copied details of why you might want to consider this below:

"Criminals are able to purchase a $30 (£18) tool which will allow them to program a blank car key-fob - and then steal high-end cars including BMW with the click of a button.

The thieves are able to purchase what are known as 'on-board diagnostics bypass tools' from China and Eastern Europe, which come in a kit form with instructions and blank keys, according to a new report.

Thieves can then capture the remote-controlled code sent by an owner to his car, and then re-program a blank key and steal the car at their own convenience."

They dont take the car straight away because once they have broken the window to gain access to the ODB port and clone the key they can just wait for you to repair the window and then return to unlock and drive off with a perfect car. Obviously it could just be kids or idiots but better safe than sorry I say!

I don't believe the OBD port was touched because the driver side window is fine and the port is covered. They would have had to crawl in through the passenger side window to get to that side of the car which I don't believe happened because there were glass shards on sides of the window that were still intact.
They probably were expecting me to have valuables in either the glovebox or the arm rest thing like an iPod or something, but I use a flash drive for music and they didn't take that and if they did they probably wouldn't like any songs in there because they're all 90's dance music ha ha
