After you've turned your engine off and taken out the "key", then remember that you need the mileage reading on your odometer or trip computer, you can just press the little black (trip reset) button once and the display will appear as if by magic.

A nice wee touch that I actually miss (the Z4 had it) was when you turned the ignition off the radio faded the volume down. The E92 doesn't seem to do that.

There is another useful thread on this in the US section ... but .. these are the best ones I have learned over the last year:
1. With idrive, if you press and hold the controller in any direction it takes you to the last screen that you were in for that section. So if you duck out of NAV to make a phone call just press and hold to the right and it will take you right back. You can also get to the menu page really quickly at any time by just pressing the menu button twice. 2. When using voice control, speak AFTER the little icon appears in the idrive screen - NOT after the beep. 3. If you say 'map' voice control takes you to the last map view. 4. If you select the 'lock if no door opened' option in the settings menu, the car will relock after a couple of minutes if you accidently unlock it. 5. In most menus the up / down steering wheel buttons scroll through the the radio stations - in phone list view they scroll through the numbers. 6. If you press the lock button, then immediately press it again the interior light comes on and the internal movement sensor is disabled. Useful if you are leaving the kids in the car whilst paying for petrol etc. 7. The 'top gear' trick of holding the key fob to your chin when locking the doors REALLY WORKS. It's actually quite useful if you forget to lock it. |

Usually do it from a distance - usually wakes people up in the middle lane.

Taken from sniffpetrol website:
With the launch of the acclaimed new 3-series, BMW has also revealed details of a sophisticated new electronics package that is aimed straight at the new car's core market. Dubbed Bellendtronic, the new system is fully integrated into the car's control systems and allows a range of functions including full disablement of the indicators, perilously late activation of the brakes and an adapted radar cruise control that allows the driver to sit 4mm from your back bumper in the outside lane of the M6. Amongst other neat touches, Bellendtronic can also apply light brake pressure at all times, covering the wheels in dust, something that will be a particular benefit if your fleet manager wouldn't let you specify alloy wheels and you want to disguise ugly plastic rim covers or the fact that if you weren't such an aspirational little twat you'd have gone for a rather better equipped Honda Accord. Initially Bellendtronic will be available on the forthcoming 316i and 318i models only, but the system is expected to become standard fitment for all models in the smaller 1-series range within a year. Other German makers are expected to follow BMW's lead, including Audi who is poised to make certain versions of the A4 available with a rival system dubbed 'Pushytwat Plus' |

This extends the range of the keyfob so that you can lock / unlock the doors from further away. Useful if you are like me and walk away from the car and can't remember if you locked it |

The picture of someone jamming their keyfob under their chin like they are about to blow their own head off tickles me ...... Any chance you could supply a picture? |

Will have to try and unearth that one (don't have i-drive). V useful feature, we have it on the family wagon (Audi) and it's really useful for the wife in case she sees a shoe shop or something after unlocking the car.

It's good for those times when the keys are in your back pocket and the car unlocks when you sit on them.
