Software update

Have anyone updated the software in your car? Did you notice any differences after the update, i.e. gear changes, idrive software performance?

Also where would you go to have the update done? Brisbane BMW quoted me $540 for the update.

Cheers

Just tell them your i-drive crashes or fails to load or your car does funny things and they will update it and cover the cost under warranty (if you still have it).

I personally am running the original software from mid 2007 because I have heard the newer software is notorious for not closing the rear wastegate (wastegate rattle) and turbo lag on the 335i.

My I-drive does stall occasionally but all up it's ok, so if it aint broke don't fix it. Currently with procede installed, it takes car of all the other stuff

Any ideas how much it is (if they decide to do it) without warranty?

EDIT: NVM saw the original poster quote $540. OUCH.

Personally, I'd only get a software update done if you are experiancing problems. don't try to fix something that isn't broken.

There is a hidden menu on the iDrive for 2009 model cars. I have accessed it before on my car and found there wasn't anything useful or interesting. It might be worth checking again to see if the software version can be viewed. See this thread for info on how to access it. Sorry if it turns out not to be of use.

I originally wanted the 'mp3 retrofit' as my car cannot play mp3 cds. But the dealer said they will need to update software for the whole car. That put me off. However, after reading the thread about version 33, I started to wonder again

Mark, mine is 2005. I cannot remember the exact month, but it is either July or August. I think I'm running the first version of iDrive in E9x

My 325i is a Sep 05 build, and I had the mid 2007 software put on it when I was having mobile phone/bluetooth problems - car seemed better, and from memory some usability tweaks to Business Navi system - but not bringing the ability to show maps like the updated Business Navi (when they put those "bookmark" keys in...

Most weird change was the navi saying "take the xth turning on the left at the roundabout" rather than "take the xth exit on the left at the roundabout", but the Lady Penelope voice is still as polite as ever

Adelaide Motors were quoting about $250 to do a software update, unless I could establish that it was a warranty issue.

After reading the link to the version 33 software, I may be interested - I have never been completely happy with the take-off...

I had a message re the steering lock and to take the car to the nearest dealer. Motorline did the s/w u/g free of charge, although still under warranty. It took overnight. The only difference I have noticed is the safe to home timer is now adjustable past 3 seconds.
