New Century BMW in Alhambra, CA stole my change!!!

So i took my car in for service today for the annual low milage maintenance. I keep all my change in the ashtray and i had it FULL of coins. After i get my car back in the afternoon, i open the lid and more than HALF the change in my ashtray was GONE! I mean if you're going to take my change don't make it THAT obvious geezes... and on top of that they took EVERY single quarter that was in there.... talk about being shady... i guess it was my fault to trust people there and not take my ashtray out before i brought my car in, but man, i expected this kinda of shadiness at places like car washes, lube n go, etc... but not at a BMW dealership. If you take your car for any kind of maintenance i HIGHLY suggest cleaning out your change before you go.

And for users who's reading this and thinking it's only a couple of bucks, or they're hardworkers they deserve a tip, etc on a "free" service performed, that is NOT the point. The point is more about the principles of buisness than the dollar ammount!

Thanks for letting me vent.

although it was at a bmw or any high end dealerships, yet the people who
does the detailing are usually the newbies or lot boys, not the high-paid "certified technicians"

afterall, don't everyone call it stealership?

Never had a problem at New Century before. My SA takes great care of me. He personally drives the car in and drives the car out. He always keeps my keys on him at all times so no one else can touch it.

no where did i accuse the SA of stealing it, i doubt he did considering he never went in my car, its either the lot boys, or the tech. And as the previous poster said, lot boys are the ones who aren't making much, but that doesn't mean they'd have to go stealing change in people's fucking cars....

Exactly. Just because it's supposedly a "luxury car" dealership doesn't mean they pay the lot attendants much more than minimum wage. I avoid dealerships like the plague, but when I do have to take any of my cars to one, I clean out anything of value and give them the ignition key only, no house keys or anything else. Yeah, I'm a little paranoid...

A lesson learned the hard way, no? I would formally complain to the dealer and let them know that their employees are stealing - who knows, they might suspect someone already.

Unless you can prove how much was in there, then it will be hard to get any compensation though. Just chalk it up to experience.

We keep $20 in our car for emergencies. It's hidden away, but there are only so many hidey-holes in the car, so a determined rogue tech would probably find it. I thought my wife was being paranoid when she suggested we take it out while the car was being serviced. I guess not...

Check the mileage. I.e. did they just pocket it, or was used to pay for a lunch run to Taco Bell?

I've had this situation arise at my work...

Here's what you need to do:

CALL the service manager; he needs to know about this! Be level headed but let him know your frustration. You're going to get one of those 1-5 service calls in a few days and he wants NOTHING more than all 5's on it. He's going to do everything in his power to make you a satisfied customer.

The other end to that is that if he's like MY boss he can't get rid of the bad apple if he doesn't know what's going on.

Let me know if you need any more help on this, I'll be glad to assist.

hmm never had my change stolen, but did find a pair of pliers jammed in the right front rotor after service. Found it when I heard a really bad grinding noise while driving, enough to make me pull over and check the wheels. Luckily only the rubberised handle had been rubbing so no damage was done to the rotor. I personally made sure the service manager got the tool back

I would call up and report this. If he or she did it to you then chances are he or she has done it in the past and will do it in the future. You may not be the only person who has called in with this issue and the deal;ership may even have someone they suspect of this. Let us know what happenes. I stories all the time on here and we never get to find out what really happened.
