Angry Chicago Tint Law Stays

I have been waiting for the verdict on this appellate court case: Sudip Ray vs. City of Chicago. I'm sad to inform that the current tint law in Chicago (no tint allowed on the front windows) is here to stay.

Why would you want your front windshield tinted?

Oh gotcha.

I thought the fronts were allowed at like 35%? Or maybe that's not Chicago...

Within Chicago city limits, the city has held that it's "home rule" of no front window tint at all will be enforced even though the State of Illinois allows 35% like you said. The fine for violation is $250

Same in GR.
People still do it. I've been pulled once so far for it.

Suburbs is fine and everytime im in the city I just park in the garage they cant issue any tickets in there. Yes its very expensive but not at a 250 dollar expense. This is why I hate downtown.

I got a ticket for this while my car was parked in a parking garage in Chicago at work. Someone on the forum sent this to me and I used it. This guy created a zip file/package of the law and instructions on what to do to beat the tint ticket. I sent the packet in and the ticket was dropped!! I had to pay nothing!

Well this is what a police officer had told me they cannot enter garages since it is private property. Thats awesome you fought that ticket.

That's what I thought. So I talked to the people who run the garage and they said that used to be the case, but not anymore. Now they are allowed to, and the garage can't kick them out anymore.

I have family in Chicago. I wonder if I plate my car in Chicago and drive in MI, will the locals leave me alone for tint? I have always wanted the U of I alumni plate anyway.

I'm wondering if the emergence of a precedent (which OP linked) will put an end to that....

I wonder if you can also dispute if the vehicle is not registered in Chicago. If I visit Chicago, they should not be able to ticket me (no different than out of state).

I dont think it matters. The problem is once you get a ticket you have to go to court to contest it. I have never had time to go to court due to my work schedule. So, I have tried to contest similar tickets with all facts as they are required by mail. The city responds with a Judges signature that you are in violation no matter what. Additional revenue for the City

My wife just got stuck with a no plate ticket while parked in a garage on Michigan Ave. Sucks that they can go in the garages, but at least they did not ticket for the tinted windows up front.

Home rule policy is stupid in this case! Simply a way for Chicago to generate some ticket revenue.

So how would someone from another state (with legal tint in that state) handle a Chicago ticket? I understand home rule, but you should not be able to enforce home rule on equipment violations.

i've lived in the city forever and have had 35% all around on my last several cars. haven't knock on wood but i've never had a ticket for it.

i think they just use it to pull over piece of shit cars or maybe to increase parking ticket revenue.
