Money to spend...new suspension or LSD?

ok so here's the deal, my wife finally said i can get something else on my list for my bimma. money is no object, but i had promised her not to spend too much especially with baby on the way and etc.

So convinced her to let me spend like a thousand or maybe $1500 on the car because i haven't done any mods in like 5 months or so.

i got a few buddies who want to go to the track here in a couple of weeks to race our cars. They all have hooked up audis, M3s, Porshe turbo and a GT3 RS and corvette, etc. So they all got nice, fast, modded cars.

I think I am the only one without an LSD and custom suspension. I don't want to be embarrased at the track and be sliding all over the place. I am already nicely modded. No meth yet until warranty runs out next year.

Now I am thinking of getting either a new suspension with Koni yellow shocks and H&R springs (not sure if sport or race springs) OR Wavetrack LSD.

Which one would give me better control around the track? price would be about same for each.

Been looking at the ST V1 coilovers too but don't know much about them.

Should I get a sway bar as well with the new suspension for extra support around turns.

What do you guys think?

Do you have the Sport package ? If yes, then LSD, for sure.

I would suggest KW V2 or even the V3 if you frequent the track a lot. Lowering your car and then do the supporting suspension mods: sway bars and eventually m3 components will make your car handle a lot better. If you are having problems putting down that power then I would suggest you go with the Wavetrack LSD(I would suggest the Quaife but it is a bit pricey).

Feel free to PM me with any questions

If you plan to track the car regularly, you'll want to upgrade both the suspension and the diff. Personnally I would start with the LSD and then save up for a good set of coilovers.

Next, you'll probably put the M3 suspension components on your wish list, which really transform the car

my car has the sport package. i just have no track driving experience whatsoever. I am a great street racer and can hang in there with the best of them. i have no idea how the car will actually handle going very fast around big turns on a track. willing to try on track but not on highway.

What does she have to do with this ? Unless she pays for your stuff, I really don't understand why does she have to approve anything...?

Is getting an LSD really more important to you than getting your baby a stroller and a crib? honestly, some people really need to re-evaluate their priorities.

He said money is no object. The problem seems to be the wife not supporting his kid. Don't go Judge Judy on his ass.

So open up another window, order ALL of the baby stuff you could possibly need, then order a muzzle and a set of earmuffs. Problem solved.

You're not going to get a LSD for $1500 (the amount he stated was max after saying money was no object )

For $1500, get a set of race tires on a set of used wheels (check the forums for people getting rid of 189s). That will still be hard to do for $1500 but will give you the biggest bang for the buck on the track and help you hang with your buddies...

Chassi improvements and wheels/tyres first if you want better road-holding, LSD for better grip on rear (and road-holding..). Both mods are mandatory for fast driving on a road race course.

For the track, I would first go with Bilstein PSS10 coilovers and H&R F/R sway bars. If you could swing it, having a body harness and short shifter will definitely help with control. Oh yeah, 18s with some sticky tires too.

All these before LSD since I don't see you drifting on day 1.

With the above highlighted, may I suggest in a track driving school. It is a humbling experience when you learn your real capabilities when seated next to someone who really knows what they are doing.

And street racing != track experience

Join group buy for wavetrac LSD ($992.75)
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=436479

Installation - supposedly 5hour job

total = around 1500?

I guess if you had welded diff then it's more pricey.

if its your first time on the track ever, id go stock or w/a lsd. no need for a upgraded suspension. work on becoming a better driver first. then after your first track day you can see what the car is lacking and go from there.

That is the time to pull and install the pumpkin. The actual diff swap takes a bit longer as well as someone who is qualified to check and set backlash, etc.

From that thread:

Quote:
Model Installation Kit (Installation Kit Required)

335i with manual transmission (up to 3/2007) No
335i with manual transmission (3/2007 to present) Yes
335i with automatic transmission (up to 3/2007) No
335i with automatic transmission (3/2007 to present) Yes
135i with manual tranmission (all) Yes
135i with automatic transmission (all) Yes

$992 for the LSD
$595 for the Install Kit
So, if you are not a pre-03/2007 build, the cost is just under $1600 which is attractive.

start stocking up on baby wipes and diapers. Wait your wife will need a bigger car when the baby comes hope you have a suv. Once the you put the stroller in the trunk you can't fit much stuff in. Good luck man.
