Phantom Mirror Issue Will Not Go Away!
Hello everyone,
I have had this dilemma on my hands for some time now on my E90. The stupid drivers side mirror automatically movies its self each time i unlock my doors and i have to push it back in place manually every time before i get in to my car. I have searched the forums and found the DYI on cleaning the connectors on the motor which i have done and it has not fixed the issue. I took the motor completely out and it was still causing it so the motor/pins are not the issue for me. Honestly i am so fed up with this problem i just want to disconnect the power mirror feature all together. I want to keep the mirror defrost and dimming mirror features but i am ready to cut what ever wires need to be cut to stop the mirror from doing this because i am sick of having to push the mirror back in to place each time before i get in to my car. Please see picture below, does any one know which wire(s) i need to cut in order to disable the power/folding mirror feature? I dont want to spend any money fixing this at the dealer so i am hoping someone can assist. In fact im not sure if even this will fix the issue, i have no idea what it is. Hoping to get some help here. Thanks in advance.

What do you mean, moves itself? Does the power folding option cause the mirror housing to fold in, or is it just the mirror inside the housing that moves?

The mirror position is tied to memory seating position, so if you have your settings set to move your seats everytime you unlock the car, then only your mirror will move bc you previously moved it back manually.

I had phantom mirror movement on my passenger side that the dealer couldn't replicate. After bringing the issue up a number of times at other services, they finally replaced the motor which fixed the problem. I'd check with the dealer first.

How do you do this? I would love to set my driver's seat to move back whenever I open the door because I am about 5'11" and sit "close" to controls (actually probably a little far away in the eyes of a DE instructor but closer than most drivers) it's real hard to fold myself in and out without either kicking the kick panel or else dragging the back of my belt across the seat bolster. Is this possible or am I misunderstanding what you are saying?

Just to clarify - this honestly has nothing to do with memory settings. I disabled my memory settings when my mirror was doing this (my driver side mirror would either go all the way up or all the way down whenever I unlocked the car) - but that had no effect on the issue.
It is just a bad mirror motor at the end of the day (reminds me of how pop-up headlights on C5 Corvettes will start going nuts if the motor gear is stripped when you unlock the car - doesn't really make sense, but sure enough when you replace the gear the problem is solved). |

I had same problem, with both drivers and passenger mirrors. Thankfully I was in warranty but both motors needed to be replaced. Cost me 50 bucks, but I think I remember my SA telling me it would have been around 600? But I cant remember if that was for one or both mirrors.....

Just for the hell of it (it's quick, easy, and free), have you tried BMW's technical service bulletin method to reset the power folding mirror position?

Here:
http://www.e90post.com/forums/showpo...19&postcount=3 Probably won't fix your problem, but it can't hurt. And like I said, it's free and quick.
