What will these cars bottom out price wise at?

I wanted to sell my 328i 6spd because of an unfixable issue but I just checked how much I could get for it and its around 5k. How much lower can it go?

The same price as any other 3 series, just pick a year. It sounds like yours has a lot of miles?

Unfixable issue being? In my experience there are just different levels of cost cost associated with repairs unless the frame is really messed up.

2004-$3k
1994-$1k

I can sell the car for 5k but they want 4k in repairs and not even guarantee it will fix the issue.

But yeah it sounds like my car has almost bottom out as is. I keep it for another 2 years and I will lose what 500-1000 dollars?

Correct on the depreciation.

A bill like that on these cars is pretty normal. If you mention what's actually wrong there are lots of people on here that could probably recommend a better route.

Up to you tho. Best of luck

The thing about car repairs is that mechanics are not going to work for less hourly wage only because your car cost less on market than a new one. Comparing repair costs to cars worth is always going to be a depressing experience for any used car and more so with BMWs. 5-6 year old 328s bottomed out already and each year price goes down, but not at that steep rate as if they were new. $5k for a 2010 328i 6MT in good condition and reasonable mileage is a steal and I don't think I can find one if need be. Which points that either you have high mileage or a lemon - "unfixable" like you said and that is why $5k price

That been said, after looking up your recent posts - it seems like you have some issue with vibration under breaking? If so, I can share that I recently replaced all 4 rotors and pads and 2 calipers for less than $400. Add to that a bit more for sensors and stuff if you will need them and I am not sure why your bill comes to $3-4k to be honest - seems to me a rip-off shop

There really is no bottom. A $5k 325/328 that needs $4k in repairs MAY sell for $2k to someone who can do the repairs themselves. Also, cheap N54s are driving the N52 value down. I just spend 3 months N52 shopping. Since this was for my 16 year old daughter, I ignored the N54s but boy was it tough! There are some nice sub $10k 335i out there.

Well, 2k of it is for a vibration no one would notice. So I of course would not mention that. Not to mention junk cars are worth about 1500 here. So a car that runs fine I expect should always fetch 4-5k.

I paid $18k for my 2010 335i msport with 73k MILES back in July. KBB trade in was 17k and Nada Retail was 22.5k. Today with 83k, KBB trade in is $12k and Nada retail is $18k. So my car loss $5k in depreciation, and still dropping. Looks like I'm stuck in my 335i for a while lol. On the bright side, with all the potential issues and depreciation, I love it and it's the best car I've owned. That's a hard thing for me to say because I usually get tired of cars after 3 months lol.

They will eventually go to $0 when worn out and unrepairable. Do BMWs not become worthless? I mean sure, $150 for scrap or $1000 as a tax deduction. Odd question.

Not really... They don't become worthless. There are some cars that bottom out and are still always worth a few k.

I have seen people dumping them for under $1k because they can't afford to fix them or just don't want to deal with repairs. Everything has a value, it all depends how much one wants to spend.

Yeah weird. Plans to dump it on the forums soon in an even more mysterious fashion?

"Anal beads stuck in the valves" is apparently an incurable issue with these cars.

No idea whats wrong with the car.. I take it to mechanics and they want to strip off all the non BMW parts to solve a vibration without guaranteeing it will fix anything. Some shops wont even touch now because it has Koni shocks instead of BMW shocks blaming the vibration issue on that. The shops that will work on it I come back with thousands of dollars in parts they want to replace because they are not sure what is causing the problem so better replace all my Textar brake pads, all my rotors Meyele, all my tires, all my wheels. Then the shop needs to align it.. Yes THEY must align it not an alignment shop for 90 bucks but I need the super duper BMW special alignment from them for 200 dollars.

When I got rid of my 1998 540i back in 2012 it had 500,000km on it.

Traction control unit needed to be replaced, transmission was on its way out and A/C system had a leak that required monthly top ups.
Fixing it was not an option as the cost simply didn't make sense compared to the value of the car.

Let her go for a $1000 as a down payment for my sisters Jetta.

Does it vibrate at low speeds or just constant vibration? Does it seem like it is coming from the front? If so I wonder if the subframe is in there tight, check torque on all bolts..

500,000KMs is pretty solid.

The OP has a vibration.

What are your symptoms OP?

Vibrate in gear, vibrate on the highway, vibrate only when cold, vibrate only when you girl sits in the passenger seat, but hell she prolly likes it?

Can't help without more information. I suspect aftermarket parts have been put on the car and a BMW dealer is trying to diagnose what's wrong, with a gold plated bill. If aftermarket parts are suspect, one could go back to whoever installed them, unless it was installed by OP.

Are you sure we'll still be able to get them, if he imposes a moratorium on all international goods due to threat of terrorism, and the desire for improving the balance of trade?
